Denied Discord prefix being optional

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

Remove prefixes like 'GOC PVT' from being mantadory on play names on discord. Currently when getting a rank change like mtf or something else ONE of your roles will be put in your name (usually what is considered your main role)
a good example would be someone joining Nu7 their name would get changed to
MTF NU7 PVT name 'codename' etc...

Currently a staff rule that is NOT told to players directly enforces it making anyone who rank request forced to have at least one of their rank shown. However one thing I always wondered is why? Players can have more then one role yet their name will match their "most played role" instead of their most used username which would imo make more sense. You can already know if someone has a role by just clickling on them and checking what roles they have to know i' what regiment they are. While I understand some ranks aren't specified (mtf ranks usually) you can also just learn that by checking the roster since some roster even specify a players username (like goc does on UK for example)
What is more dumb is that sometimes people keep a different nickname then what they have ingame but still get the rank given in their name which makes no sense now cuz your character and discord ID don't match. So it truly feels like just a pointless rule that dosnt server much of a purpose. Maybe important ranks like CO/COM SA o5 etc should be shown but do you need to know that someone is an spc on the discord?
Obviously fully removing the option seems dumb for people that like this so this suggestion only ask for the rule to be an option instead.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

N o

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

-people get to choose their name or keep their discord ID for easier recognition (you wont wonder anymore who is this random person that you actually know but got named changed because they swapped character again)
-Less visual clutter from seing 20 people talk with similar ingame rank
-People still can get the rank infront if they want to.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

-Harder to tell specific ranks for some positions like regiment etc... Who don't have rank specific roles

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

Generally letting people keep their name seems smarter then it being changed every single time you rank request making people not reconize you at first because CI pk'ed you for the fith time this month. Some people have expressed their frustation for what seems to be a pointless rule that is NOT EVEN PUBLIC unless you ask. And if some people like ranks on their name, they can keep it as well. If this gets denied at least specify it in the rank request channel so people don't complain that your only argument is that staff said it. Transparency tends to work nice.

Love this, big +support, but needs to only be for ranks under CO (and senior ranks for DEA manager + & ISD commissioner +, medical/rsd would ideally have CL4 ranks as they don't have the 3 rank structure)

Just ask for 'roles only, no name change' and most staff will oblige. Learned from personal experience :)

I mean, it depends.
Currently, you're forced to have at least one prefix on your name. You can ask for no name change if you already have one, but they will still force you to have at least one (Trust me, I've tried too much).

Anyways easy +Support, at the bare minimum remove it for any roles that aren't CL4.

I dont think this is a good idea. It makes communication within regiments over the discord so much more difficult and will make it annoying to find specific people, for example if you have a different name from your ingame name/rank on discord, it makes it much harder to log discord names or identify who is making announcements or orders etc. It could work if it was done properly, but imo its just too difficult to implement currently and the cost in long term would be worse than the short term benefits.

Whole argument about it today, apparently that's not allowed unless you're SL.

Many people already have different names, because they have different characters. You wouldn't fine me on discord if you were just using my GOC name. This means you have to do the basics of: Talking to the person and asking for the name, or asking someone else.

Make sense until you realise you could be assistant in an mtf and goc at the same time. if all of em have different name, your cooked.

I don't know why SL are making this out to be such a huge issue. It's literally just a Discord name, what does it matter that "John" doesn't have a prefix before their name because they have an ISD Investigator role or whatever. This is such a non-issue that they literally won't let you have many things as prefixes, like ISD Agent, but apparently the moment a regiment role or a "non-soft" whitelist is involved, suddenly it's required (but only for you, not for them).

SL don't have to have their whitelists in name so why the hell should anyone else?

There are rosters for a reason, they have the information
