What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
This suggestion reworks the handcuff mechanic to function more like elastic restraints by introducing a visible progress bar when cuffing a player. Cuffing would take a few seconds to complete and would only be possible if the target is not resisting (e.g. under gunpoint or immobilized). Additionally, a short cooldown (e.g. 5–10 seconds) would be added between cuff uses to prevent spam. These changes encourage more immersive roleplay and improve gameplay balance during encounters such as SCP-035 breaches.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
No directly comparable suggestions could be found. While handcuff improvements or anti-spam mechanics have occasionally been discussed, this proposal uniquely blends realistic restraint timing, anti-spam cooldowns, and gameplay adjustments that enhance scenarios involving SCPs like 035.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

  • Encourages more meaningful and realistic RP, as players will need to hold others at gunpoint or use teamwork rather than instantly cuffing.
  • Prevents "handcuff spam" abuse in chokepoint areas (e.g. SCP-035's CC), allowing anomalies a fairer chance to exploit psychological manipulation.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

  • May slightly slow down fast-paced detainment situations, requiring better coordination from MTF/guards.
  • Could introduce frustration if restraint progress is canceled too often by movement or environmental factors.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
The positives offer meaningful improvements to immersion, fairness, and gameplay depth, particularly in high-tension moments like SCP breaches. While there are trade-offs in terms of pacing, they can be mitigated through good communication and strategy. Overall, this system rewards skillful RP and enhances player cooperation on both sides of detainment encounters.

I see both sides of this.

I get the problem - To be honest, I did always find it weird that you can just instacuff people, but I get the reasoning.

Regardless of all of this, I think a cooldown on using cuffs is necessary because being able to easily spam cuff two or three people in quick succession feels like such a weird thing to be able to do.

As for the actual elastics-like progress bar delaying putting the cuffs on in the first place, being able to slap cuffs on is reasonably doable. If this had to be a thing, I would say it should be half a second at most.

That’s a part of the cn experience. you either deal with it or don’t, the rest of us shouldn't suffer with bad gameplay cause you refuse to type one message and press a button in a ui
I’m fine with calling a sit but the amount of times a sit would be called over a super simple thing is well absurd. I don’t think it’s worth my time or staff’s time to call 30 fail rp and hit box abuse reports

I getting sick of the handcuff spam and see it as very unfair to 035 in his breaches with e-11 standing outside his cc handcuff spamming anyone that is being lured in to put on the mask we have to bring back fairness to the gameplay loop and roleplay too, being able to just slap cuffs on someone instantly breaks the immersion, it would require isd to have the person under gunpoint or take 2 seconds to type "@ techie is failrp"

We get like 10 plus isd on a time its not nurfing isd its getting them to work as a team rather than solo isd instant cuffing whoever they see if someone is refusing cuffs they are clearly a minge with no interest in rp and should be dealt with by admins the quicker we get rid of those people the faster we return to the great rp i always remember on site 65, handcuffs are overpowered.

Suggestion Denied

Hi @Dan Roth ,

Thanks for taking the time to make a server suggestion.

The Content Team has chosen to deny your suggestion due to the following reason(s):

Handcuffs already currently require you to be close enough to the person for a couple of seconds to be able to successfully cuff them. Content Team see no need to add a cooldown to this, based on the above, combined with the fact that they are quite buggy allowing for people to move away whilst being actively dragged.

Overall, Content Team believe that this would increase player frustration rather than make their experience more immersive.

Your suggestion will now be locked and marked as denied.
