Hey everyone, I want to open a civil and constructive discussion about something that recently affected me personally, and that I believe impacts the entire community: bunnyhopping and how it's currently being enforced. Recently, I was involved in a sit regarding another player. I submitted a clip as evidence for a totally unrelated issue. However, during the sit, the clip I submitted was used against me, and I was warned for "fail RP" due to bunnyhopping. This decision came from a high ranking staff member. Now, while I understand that staff have a responsibility to enforce rules, I believe this situation raises some important questions about consistency, fairness, and what bunnyhopping should actually mean in the context of SCP roleplay. Bunnyhopping, for those who might not know, is the act of repeatedly jumping while running. It’s not uncommon across many RP servers, and on ours, it’s something nearly every player does... from Class-D to MTF to even staff themselves when not in sits. Most of the time, it’s just a way to get around slightly faster when out of combat, or a harmless movement with no impact on immersion or RP... which brings me to the heart of this post...
There is a big difference between:
If the rule against bunnyhopping exists to preserve immersion or balance during combat, then it should only be enforced when one of those things is actually at stake. Enforcing it in passive, low-impact situations just creates unnecessary tension and feels petty.
The part that truly bothers me is this: Why is this rule only enforced when a player submits a clip?
If I’m being punished for bunnyhopping in a medal clip I submitted... just as collateral footage... then every other instance of bunnyhopping should be met with the same standard.
Yet, we see players bunnyhopping constantly. Right in front of staff. And nothing is said. No warnings. No reminders. Just silence.
That’s not enforcement... that’s selective punishment.
I’m not here to create drama or target anyone. I’m here because I care about this server, and I want to see it thrive with rules that make sense, are enforced fairly, and don't discourage players from reporting issues due to fear of retaliation for minor things.
There is a big difference between:
- A player bunnyhopping for no reason during an active RP scenario, or...
- Bunnyhopping to dodge bullets or make themselves harder to hit during combat...
- A player bunnyhopping in a hallway when no RP is going on...
- Or casually jumping on top of medbay...
