What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
The addition of a new "Emote Swep" to give emotes to more specific moments to allow for further RP creation.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
I am unaware of any if so.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Visual Look, Emotes would simply put make RP scenes look more interesting by seeing people doing emotes and actions beyond just the regular GMOD/HL stand and stare. Want to RP being heavily injured? Maybe a sitting or laying animation for you. Want to be obviously relaxing? Maybe lean against a wall.
  • Visual Clarity, Emotes would allow for more visual clarity for specific RP scenarios - want to RP that you're sitting on the ground because of an injury? Just do an emote. The "crouch and do a /it or /me" method only works so well and not at range and not for anyone not actively reading chat. This would make that easier.
  • Further RP Potential Ideas, Although my own ideas are limited, emotes would still allow for more potential RP ideas. As mentioned a moment ago injury RP could look and feel more interesting by just adding a basic sitting down emote beyond the regular "sitting on a chair".
  • Less PAC3 needs, Obviously all of this could be done in PAC3 and I will continue to use it for that purpose however many people have PAC3 turned off and would never realise something is being done. This suggestion would simply allow it for non-PAC3 users to enhance their RP a bit more.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
  • Creation of the swep would use time of needed development teams.
  • Possible misuse of emotes, in terms of combat misuse and being spammed. Below (right below this, and at the bottom) I have given three possible methods of stopping misuse.

For the specific causes in which this could be abused (e.g ducking during combat), I would reccomend that it take a second or so for each emote to be done so it cannot be quickly activated for a combative advantage or making a rule regarding using it in combat - both of these are purely recommendations if this suggestion were to be rejected because of "Possible Misuse" as solutions to that problem.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should hethis suggestion be accepted:
This idea is fairly simple, it would add a swep similar to the gestures swep which when used and selected would make a persons player character do a specific animation. This could use custom animations created by the development team or just simply the ones that already exist in the game (such as "sit_zen" - which is pictured below).

I would reccomend for the ones that change a person's body greatly (sitting / laying / leaning) would also freeze them in place for the duration of the animation, to make it look more reasonable and prevent misuse.

The swep would add a number of simple animations, such as:
The below are all individual suggestions, and should certainly not be treated as a "all or none" suggestion, this is also not a limiting factor - as more / less emotes could (and perhaps should) be added.

  • Sitting Animation, for sitting on non-chair environments.
  • Laying Down Animation, for laying down without the need of GM assisted halflife pod. Would include a very "laying straight" animation and a "slightly sprawled out" animation.
  • General Injured pose, used to give a better RP scene / more RP scenarios to build around.
  • Kneeling down, to provide better RP scenes / push into further RP. (such as "pose_ducking_01" - which is pictured below)
  • Leaning on on wall animation.
  • Leaning over barrier.
  • Drinking a drink.
Overall, bar work that would need to be done to make this, I see no reason for this to be denied. It is a direct step into more RP without removing anything that exists or inadvertently buffing combative roles.

SWEPs are considered entities on the server, and as such we would need to avoid use of SWEPs otherwise it can brick the server until the entity count goes down.

(We need to have less SWEPs than more)

I don't know what the word swep means frankly, if a different / better word I should've used it instead.

Scripted WEaPon.

It doesn't have to be a SWEP, the emotes tab in the C menu does work with PAC3 and could maybe be used for this (although those ARE emotes already built into GMod...)

+SUPPORT

I've made my stance on this clear in mess hall when we were talking and I'l reiterate here. It'd be ideal if we could have something that could add additional personality to characters without the need of PAC usage as certain people have it turned off to "save frames".

Considering the big bosses said that we need less SWEPs perhaps some other system could accompany these 'emotes' or combine it into the gestures SWEP.

Regardless, this is a welcome change that would improve RP significantly.
