What does this suggestion change/add/remove
Wiremod addon, and with it maybe a new foundation/CI job with a limited amount of slots (Automation Specialist/Electrical Engineer, or something akin to that)
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?
I used the query function and could not find any mentions of wiremod/starfall/expression 2, so I'm guessing I'm the first to have suggested this.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2)
- Obviously this would serve to enhance the immersion. When I was on Werewolf SCPRP waaay back, I saw a guy create an alarm system for some guy's office. Some other time I saw someone steering a small drone into an SCP containment chamber. Research or GENSEC, for instance, could work closely together with these wiremod people to create new RP opportunities and essentially create small, lightweight addons on demand. The possibilities are endless.
- People would learn more about programming (you can hold seminars where you explain how your script works or brainstorm some ideas on how to solve an RP-related problem) and some might even dip their toes in GLua and consider applying for a developer rank.
- My first possible positive briefly mentioned just how efficient wiremod is; instead of having to make a suggestion about something you want added to the server, you can coordinate with the wiremod people to make a smaller, albeit not as resource demanding "addon" which doesn't stay on the server permanently.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion
Obviously there's always a risk of wiremod crashing the server, but beyond that there's not any other possible negatives. Even it crashing the server is easy to mitigate by having e.g. two foundation slots on a wiremod job, which is only given to people who have demonstrated that they're not applying to fuck with the server/RP (either by having donated or applied for a whitelist on the forums/tried out).
Based on the Positives and negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted?
The positives outweigh the negatives by a THOUSAND times. It's very easy to prevent wiremod from crashing the server. I've been on sandbox servers where they not only allow starfall and wiremod/expression 2, but there are extremely many addons and moveable entities and props flying around, and they rarely (if ever) crash (at least not from what I've seen). There they have player tick quotas and prop burst limits in place. You could also restrict certain E2 functions and wiremod components.
Also whatever happened to MNScript? That shit was awesome
