G.O.C Feedback & Suggestions Thread

Enhancements to the Global Occult Coalition

Hey everyone,

We’re putting this thread together to gather your thoughts on the Global Occult Coalition (G.O.C). What it currently offers, where it falls short, and how we can improve it to make it a more exciting and involved faction on the server.

Whether you’re part of the G.O.C., have interacted with them in roleplay, or just have ideas you think could help expand them as a whole, we want to hear it.

What We're Aiming For:

We want the G.O.C. to feel like:

  • - A strong, standout presence on the surface
    - A faction with clear, unique goals and personality
    - A fun and interesting experience for both members and outsiders
    - A meaningful part of the wider server roleplay
    - A faction to balance out the Foundation's and the Chaos Insurgency's eternal war while still pursuing its own goals

Some Things to Think About:

  • - What kind of activities or missions should the G.O.C. be doing?
    - How can they have more impact on surface or cross-faction roleplay?
    - Are there new tools, gear, or roles they could have?
    - What makes the G.O.C. feel different from other factions?
    - What's currently missing from the experience?
    - What does your ideal G.O.C. look like?
    - How should diplomacy and military actions be conducted by the G.O.C.?

If you’ve got feedback, ideas, or even flat-out concepts. Please post them below! Just try to be detailed so we can fully understand what you’re suggesting. We’re open to all kinds of input, whether it’s a small tweak or a major shift.

Please know, while we will be reviewing all feedback, this does not mean everything said will be accepted by default. Ideas and feedback will be tallied up in a suggestion thread for Content Team and Senior Server Leadership+ to review.

Keep the thread on topic, we will be forced to reply-ban people and delete messages if they don't contribute to the thread as a whole.

Thanks for helping us shape the future of the G.O.C.

UNGOC needs a standard roleplay loop in downtime. They have people AFK’ing in their base and they simply lack anything when not doing testing in foundation or fighting on surface (on occasional wars). I don’t have any ideas currently, but feel free to expand.
What ideas do you suggest for a roleplay loop? We want to add things to GOC, but getting ideas from the community so you guys can help get GOC to where everyone wants it to be is the goal of this.

So, what are you thinking GOC should be doing as there gameplay loop?

As I have previously stated, one of the things which could majorly help would be a base update. Specifically (Keep in mind I'm only former GOC, this is only what I thought at the time)

Embassy
Garage
Labs
Training Room
Offices

Embassy and Offices
An Embassy update could give more things to do, as right now it's literally just a room with a single table and some chairs. My thoughts were that the current Embassy could have a 2nd floor added and the entire building be changed into a more "Public" area (Still with keypad doors and the like) with the Offices being moved down into the Bunker and expanded. A meeting room should still be kept in the New embasy but still. It needs work
The Bunker offices could be used as Spawnpoints for Officer, LTCOL/COL, Ambassador and Attache while having coded Cl4 doors. Additionally this would give a private office space for High clearence meetings to be held

Garage
To be blunt. The GOC Garage sucks actual ass. The LAV blatantly clips through the garage door and barley fits in. Even just raising the height would be nice.

Labs
At least when I was there, the Lab/Medbay was always cramped with how much stuff needed to be fit in. I think a general expansion, as well as a larger "Containment" chamber would work well.

Training Room
Killhouse my Beloved qwq
Every other Faction has a KH, but we're left with nothing

I personally think that instead of directly expanding the UNGOC base, an expansion to surface or pinewood would be great, such as some new buildings (watchtowers, gardens & stores) to make the village feel more realistic, outside of some small village in the middle of nowhere. Even a little field or greenhouse would be nice to help with immersion or some roleplay loop involving the UNGOC delivering supplies to the town by truck.

Im going to be honest, GOC needs something for Enlisted or NCOs to work towards in a short term goal, You could have GOC working with machines or collecting scrap to gain access to a much less powerful but a unique orange suit like job, a robot that has a gimmick or two that has a spawn point system, as GOC collect scrap (or whatever you decide for them to do) they earn points for their faction which can be used by non COs, I feel being a non CO in a regiment that solely relies on relations would be terrible and giving lower ranks ANYTHING would be fun

That's a very good point.

COs are relied on more heavily in the GOC compared to other factions/MTFs.

Killing KTEs on surface, Peacekeeping surface and stopping combat between F & CI on surface as that breaks the veil, interacting with civilians & Spying on both F & CI.

Additionally GOC should be the primary power in the region when it comes to military power on surface. At the moment, Military power is held in the hands of CI because; They are built more for fighting, better overall kit & Specialised Jobs.

The way that GOC could be made the more militarised faction than CI would be to give them the ability to essentially kill any faction who isn't following the rules GOC input on surface; DMZ, Ceasefires, Armistices & Etc. The exact term would be equipment that Projects Power. I'll input what I think could be added below.

The Suits, More in-depth thaumaturgy, in-direct fire weapons ( artillery & mortars ), potentially new armoured vehicles such as the Puma, Bradley or Leopard 2A7 to give them a more lasting impact. Additionally an expanded base of Tactical Tablet Support; Calling Armour, Smoke Artillery, Field Kit airdrop & etc, etc. The Main idea would be to make GOC a pain to fight so that other factions will be more hesitant to declare war over every small issue which is how it goes now.

Fighting GOC should be the lose condition for factions if they don't play smart. The Counter to GOC RP shouldn't be to run out of base and sit on a hill 24/7.

GOC is the only faction on the server who you can play ( Barr civilians ) and not be "someone's" enemy constantly. GOC are the only faction who can go between the lines and do diplomacy RP.

Additionally GOC's lack of a gameplay loop makes it feel more like Dark RP style RP where you HAVE to think to make your RP which is a blessing and a curse.

A Gameplay-loop, the ability to be actually feared by other factions for the military power they possess, Internal RP opportunities & accuracy to the lore material GOC is based on which is the main appeal to most GOC Players.

A Faction that while strong is fair.

Ideally GOC wouldn't have a constant presence on the server so that the inherent unfairness of their equipment isn't always pronounced, however if GOC is kept as a Neutral party by SSL & Other Factions being more hesistant on declaring war against them, then the unfairness of their equipment wouldn't be pronounced.

THE REASON I WANT MORE DANGEROUS AND MORE VERSATILE WEAPONS IS SO THAT GOC'S RP HAS A STRENGTH BEHIND IT, THE RP IS BACKED BY THE THREAT OF THE WEAPONS, THE WEAPONS IDEALLY WOULD NOT BE USED OUTSIDE OF KILLING SCPs.

Diplomats should be friendly & reasonable but have the power of the GOC's Military behind them, all Military actions should be in service to their goals or diplomatic reasons.

GOC should be a bogey-man to the Foundation while not posing the direct threat that CI does. GOC should be a direct threat to CI but that won't work due to how small the server is.

GOC pose an existential threat to F and F should never actively and openly go to war with them.
GOC should pose a threat to CI if CI actually do something that the GOC don't like; Surface Breaches, 008 Breaches & Civilian Attacks.

That's a very good point.

COs are relied on more heavily in the GOC compared to other factions/MTFs.
Unlike a lot of regiments on civil GOC relies HEAVILY on COs, CI has the same issue however there are a lot more COs so it feels as if the problem isn't as big, GOCs gameplay loop (from what I've seen at least) as a non CO revolves around escorting COs when they complete diplomatic relations with the foundation and capturing SCPs on surface

Mind you, I only have the perspective of a US player, The UK could have a lot of things for Enlisted and NCOs to work towards

If GOC claims to be a RP faction why do they need the best guns, jobs, and literal bombs. The bombs they have misused so much and no one does anything because they call it crossfire. GOC is not a RP faction and it’s more of a combat faction than any other.

If you want to prove me wrong remove their combat stuff

tl;dr

Another fundamental issue is that a lot of the GOCs activity has little to no reward.

For example. ADB raids, one of the main utilizations for the Assesment Team, are basically pointless. Right after the KTE is ADBed they just immediately respawn and nothing has changed.

Something that should (and I think is?) being added is the possibility of a cooldown, so that the ADBed SCPs cannot be tested on or breached.
It could also work if every successful ADB gave a Warfunds reward. As then there would be even more incentive for the GOC to put the effort in for an ADB

As well as that. There should be more utilization of Pinewood. As has been mentioned here, it'd be nice if there was a few GOC Specific Missions, such as delivering medical supplies or other such things

Another issue is that the GOC has no real way to negatively impact Foundation or Ci other than just Raiding (which disrupts Rp and shouldn't be the GOCs primary goal)
Like, all I can think of is the GOC withholding surface SCPs so they cannot be sampled by F or CI. Buuut all that you need to do to work around that is get the SCP first
Conversly, Foundation and Ci both have way more ways to negatively impact the GOC (Such as raids, denying entery for tests, general uncooperation)

To put it briefly. It'd be nice if there was some way for the GOCs actions to actually have an impact, other than just "Hurr Durr War time"

Warfunds per ADB idea is kinda cooking.

GOC should have more ways to negatively impact other factions or atleast should not be reliant on other factions.

Honestly I'm suprised its never been a thing. If it is added, there'd be more of an incentive to actually ADB

And yeah. There's very few ways for the GOC to actually give negative impacts that don't involve constant killing

I was in the past asked about how GOC could be reworked but im not sure what happened to the ideas I gave so im going to reiterate them here:

The main issue I see, and the reason why many GOC just afk in base is that there is a severe lack of RP or anything to do on surface other than the occasional surface breached SCP, or parawatch spamming "Whats SCP?" and "Whats 682?". In my opinion the entirety of surface content needs a rework, because the only current "content" is grinding out scavenging for cyanide pills and bleach. Some of the ideas I had to fix this issue is the following:

A character specific surface skill leveling and crafting system.
This system would be tied to your character so any progress you make on a civilian will not carry over to a d class or GOC. This system will ideally give you the ability to craft items such as money printers or other items where profit can be made. Maybe even add a way for civilians to access the basic chemical system because currently surface medics dont have any way to create medication when people are sick. Making this system character specific will hopefully incentivize D Class to stick around on surface instead of running straight to CI to go back into foundation as part of a raid.

The ability for GOC to actually reincorporate escaped D class into society
To further incentivize D class to come to GOC if they want to stick around for surface content, give GOC the actual ability to turn D class into civilians. Currently we need the help of staff or a gamemaster to set their model, and half the time we're just told to take them to the disguise dealer on surface instead. Issues arise when the d class is unable or unwilling to spend scrap on a disguise, because at that point we have no other choice than to either kill them because they're a walking info breach, or return them to foundation. Furthermore, D class who have escaped to surface and been reincorporated into society should act as actual civilians, spawning on surface until a server restart, or until Nu-7/DEA figure out its actually a D class and take them to return them to D block. This will prevent D class taking all the time to get to surface only to be RDM'd or killed by a surface SCP being sent back to d block and losing all their progress.

Darkrpifying surface
Lets be real, Rangers really dont have much to do on surface when theres no parawatch info breaching. This leads to rangers 90% of the time declaring war on either CI, Foundation, or GOC. Along with the surface leveling and crafting systems, include the ability to grow plants. While this may not make sense since surface is covered in snow, there are ways to grow plants indoors. These plants can be grown and sold to the chef NPC in the pinewood eatery, something that is never really used. Alongside this allow civilians to have other ways to illegally make money, such as growing drug plants. This would give something for rangers to investigate on surface while at the same time giving people something to do on surface, which would lead to more RP being created between all groups. This system will ideally be locked behind the surface skill leveling system due to the easy influence on the server economy. Skills way down the line would ideally include the ability to synthesize Potassium Cyanide, Bleach, and Empty Pills, so that people arent stuck and bored scavenging for these items for hours and not getting anything worth their time.

These systems can easily be expanded on to include more content and more skills to unlock over time.

I agree with Doug that what GOC really needs is some sort of gameplay/roleplay loop.
As Cheesy said, GOC has the immense advantage of having the option of being Neutral with any other faction. This gives GOC really good RP potential, and let's players do almost any RP they can think of.

What GOC doesn't have is some sort of gameplay objective. There's CMissions, but they lack a feeling of purpose. Warfunds are so plentiful for GOC that CMissions are often just straight ignored. This results, as Doug highlighted, a lot of GOC simply sitting AFK when there is no RP going on. Giving GOC some sort of concrete gameplay objective they can work towards when they have nothing else to do would be a significant improvement. Something akin to what chemicals are for Foundation.

I don't have any concrete ideas, but I think playing into GOC's paratech would be smart. Some sort of collection system similar to chems, or maybe something like CMissions or scavenging, for the purpose of creating paratech might work. But of course, balancing becomes a concern, and if created paratech saves across sessions (i.e. can be put in VInventory) there's the concern of people making it on GOC and then just using it on other characters, but if they don't save across sessions, it might feel pointless for players.
