External Discord Guidelines
- Definition: An external Discord is an external run by a Civil Networks player that is mainly populated by Civil Networks players.
- No 'Official' Discords: External Discords that claim to be the official Discord for an in-RP group (such as a regiment (MRP) or department/MTF (SCP-RP)), or any element of Civil Networks, are prohibited under all circumstances.
- Discord Naming: You may not name an external Discord after an in-RP group, e.g. "Security Department Discord", even if you call it "unofficial" in the name.
- No Membership Requirements: You may not make membership of an external Discord a requirement for membership of any in-RP group, or require a player to join your external Discord in return for any in-game benefit.
- No Hiding Important Documents & Conversations: You may not use this Discord as a hub for important documents & conversations that should be held inside of an official CN Discord. For instance, you may not use it for High Command meetings (MRP), O5/Ethics meetings (SCP-RP), posting documents for COs, etc.
- No Blanket Invites: You may not blanket invite all members of an in-RP group of players to your external Discord. Blanket inviting means automatically extending an invite to people when they become a member of an in-RP group of players, either directly, or through posting the link in an announcements channel. This rule is intended to avoid 'official' Discords being created in all but name. Examples of an in-RP group of players are:
- All members of an in-RP group,
- All players holding a certain rank (or above),
- All players holding a certain whitelist.
- Don't Lie: Provided you follow all the above rules, there is no need to notify Server Leadership or Network Leadership about your external Discord. However, if asked about the existence of one, you may not lie about it, and if requested to by a Super Admin or member of Network Leadership, you should give members of SL/NL access so we can inspect the Discord to check compliance with the above rules. We will only ask for access when we have reason to believe you're breaking the rules - we're not interested in seeing your Discord with your friends, or anything like that!
Examples
Allowed Discords
- You create a Discord called 'Pro Researchers' and invite researchers on SCP-RP who you notice are extremely talented. Your Discord is used for discussing cool SCPs, coming up with research ideas, and pasting in documents that you are working on, or have finished. There is no requirement for any researcher to join and their progression through the department is not affected by their membership. This discord is allowed.
- You create a Discord called 'The Boys/Girls' and invite your friends to it. Your Discord is used for posting memes, playing other games and making random jokes. You don't care whether or not a player on the server is in your Discord or not. This discord is allowed.
Prohibited Discords
- You create a Discord called 'Unofficial Security Department' and invite some of your friends who play security. This discord is prohibited because you named it after an in-RP group. A neutral name like 'GENSEC Army', however, would be allowed.
- You create a Discord called 'MTF Tips & Tricks'. The name of this Discord is allowed because it doesn't mention a specific MTF, but you blanket invite all players who join your MTF to the Discord. This discord is prohibited because of the blanket invite.
- You create a Discord called 'Pilot Tips & Tricks'. You require people who join your air force regiment to join it to get promoted past SGT. This discord is prohibited because of the membership requirement.
- You create a Discord called 'Secret Council' and invite some of your friends who happen to be on the O5 Council to it. Soon, you start holding private O5 meetings in the Discord and discussing important in-game topics, and avoid using the main SCP-RP Discord's O5 channels to do so. You also post hidden O5 documents that you've created inside of this Discord. This discord is prohibited because it's hiding important documents & conversations.
Refusing to remove an external Discord that does not comply with these guidelines will result in punishments of severity up to a network-wide blacklist.
