[Guide] How to remove ReShade

Starting on 02/07/2025, we have banned the use of ReShade and attempting to join our servers will now result in you being kicked with the following message;

Why is ReShade is no longer allowed

Due to constant misuse the decision was made to ensure fair gameplay. ReShade can provide players with significantly unfair advantages to those playing the game in its intended state, such as; Night vision and enhancing visibility in low-light environments or altering the game's graphics in ways that may give some players an unfair advantage. By prohibiting its use, we aim to create a fairer playing field for all users.

Note: This also goes for any other post-processing / graphics services that are used to modify the games visuals outside of the game's standard settings.

Easy Uninstall Method

1) Open your ReShade Installer / Setup .exe.

2) Select Garry's Mod when it asks you to choose the software.

3) If already installed it will allow you to choose the option to "Uninstall ReShade and effects".

4) ReShade should now be uninstalled.

Manual Uninstallation Method

1) Locate the game directory (Steam Library > Right click Garry's Mod > Manage > Browse Local Files).

2) Identify ReShade files;

Common File Locations:

• GarrysMod (Main Directory)
• GarrysMod/bin
• GarrysMod/bin/win64

Common Files:

• dxgi.dll
• d3d9.dll
• d3d11.dll
• opengl32.dll
• ReShade configuration files such as reshade.ini
• reshade-shaders folder and all its contents (if present)

3) Delete above relevant files (You may not have all of them due to your setup) and any other ReShade related files not listed in the guide.

4) Verify game integrity (Steam Library > Right click Garry's Mod > Properties > Installed files > Verify integrity of game files)

5) Restart / launch Garry's Mod
