How to Make a Proper Lore Submission!

This forum is used to allow our players an opportunity to add to the lore used on the server. If you're good at storytelling and want to see your imagination come to life on the server, this is the place to start! This forum will help you meet our standards while best allowing your imaginative writing skills to flourish.

Submission Rules
  1. Do not over-do the coloring on your post! Excessive use of colors and font changes will make your submission very difficult to read! Also avoid giant walls of text. Utilize paragraphs
  2. Do not dupe other submissions! If your lore submission is a duplicate or excessively similar to another story, it will be denied. Your submission may add onto another's story, but should not contradict it.
  3. Do not mention other community names! You should not be mentioning other Garry's Mod servers in your submission.
  4. Absolutely no 18+/NSFW content of any kind! This includes any content that is suggestive in nature, even if you're referencing actual SCP Wiki articles.
  5. Ensure your submission has proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation! It is important that we're able to read your submission!
  6. Put effort into your submission! While we won't be demanding specific word counts, you should be spending a great deal of time on your lore submission! Don't just copy the SCP Wiki, use your imagination! Be original and go in-depth. You shouldn't be cranking out an entire submission in only 15-20 minutes.

Verdict Rules
  1. When leaving a verdict, be sure you're leaving constructive criticism! If your verdict consists of calling a submission "crap" or "bad" or anything similar, it will likely be deleted and you could face staff action. Leave constructive, in-depth criticism!
  2. Use +Support, Neutral, and -Support as verdicts! This will help staff get a better feel for how well-received your submission will be!
  3. Be honest and legitimate with your feedback. Don't let your opinion of a writer determine your opinion of their work!

Making Your Submission

Getting Started! When making your submission, it's important to understand the basics of storytelling. Every submission starts with an idea; you should have a submission centered around this idea! If you want to write a creepy story, think of something that frightens you. If you want to write a funny story, think of something that makes you laugh. One thing to consider heavily is what kind of emotion you want your story to evoke from a reader. Great stories evoke emotion and implore the reader to continue reading.

Inspiration! While we don't want you to rip content from other sources and call it your own (this would be plagiarism), taking inspiration from other peoples' works is always a great start! You can always look at articles on the SCP Wiki to help you get a feel of how to format and tie your story together. Just make sure your work is your own; add your own sparkle to it!

Supplemental Content! Adding photographs and graphics to your submission is a great way to keep your readers immersed. A good program to use if you'd like to make your own graphics is 'paint.net'! If you're not an artist, that's okay! Just make sure you're careful about using copyrighted images and content, as that could cause trouble with approving your submission!

Formatting! As it was mentioned in the rules section, formatting is extremely important! Good formatting will help your reader best understand your story, and can even add spice to how your story is read. Dividing your submission into chapters, using BB-Code features intuitively, and using creative literature techniques are all great formatting skills!

Realistic Application! Understand that if approved, your submission will become part of the server's canon. It is very important to understand the implications of this when writing your submission; how will my story affect the roleplay on the server? Definitely consider adding fun tidbits of information which can be used to add new possibilities to roleplay situations!

Check Your Work! And finally, once your submission is all put together, have people read over it! Taking feedback at every chance you get can only help you in having your submission accepted in the end! Send your story to your friends and have them help you.

Conclusion

In the end, we hope you take this awesome opportunity to help us vastly improve the roleplay on the server. We want to give you all the ability to take the server's roleplay to new areas, and we can't wait to read all of the amazing stories and ideas you all have to share!

Regards,
Server Leadership Team
