Hans Wandmaker

Hans Wandmaker was discovered during Expedition 860-A-13, found unconscious within SCP-860-1 approximately 430 meters from the initial entry point. Subject was dressed in the remnants of a WWII-era German combat medic uniform, with insignia consistent with Wehrmacht field medical personnel (circa 1943–44). Upon recovery and medical evaluation, Wandmaker exhibited stable vital signs and a biological age of approximately 26, despite historical records suggesting he should be deceased many decades ago. Cognitive and linguistic assessments revealed slight temporal disorientation but no evidence of mental degradation.

In 1942, Wandmaker was forcibly reassigned from his field unit to participate in an experimental program operated under the Ahnenerbe, a research organization notorious for occult and anomalous experimentation. Surviving fragments of recovered documentation suggest the project’s aim was to test a dimensional or spatial displacement apparatus referred to only as “Der Durchgang” (“The Passage”). Wandmaker was chosen as a “volunteer” due to his medical background and non-commissioned status. During the experiment, witnesses reported a brief surge of blue light and dense fog before Wandmaker and several researchers vanished. No official record of the experiment’s outcome exists.

Following his recovery, debriefing confirmed Wandmaker’s historical authenticity. Due to his cooperation, medical knowledge, and adaptability to anomalous environments, he was granted provisional employment within the Foundation under strict supervision. Wandmaker now serves as rotational personnel.

Wandmaker remains under psychological observation, citing recurring dreams of “voices in the fog” and “a forest that breathes.” Despite this, he demonstrates strong discipline and a rational mindset, earning a reputation among staff for his calmness under duress.

“Wandmaker’s mind is an artifact of another era... rigidly structured, but deeply introspective. His experiences before and after SCP-860 have left him with a stoic acceptance of the anomalous. He shows no hostility toward the Foundation, though prolonged isolation or fog exposure appears to trigger acute anxiety responses.”

“He keeps a small leather-bound notebook filled with sketches of plants he remembers from the other side. Says he’s trying to ‘understand the rules of living things again.’ Nobody’s had the heart to take it away.” — Researcher ████
