For context, this document was written in November of 2022 and features many players and characters who are now in different positions or retired. That being said I wrote it at a time where I wanted to remember certain characters and was inspired by other server lore stories featuring my friends. It is a two chapter document written for both Foundation and CI.

Chapter 1:
A Cold Conundrum

Featured In-Game Characters:
  • MTF Nu-7 COM Rui "Rudy" Mercer
  • MTF B-1 COM Eric “Epicap” Cappington

The Command tent’s flap tore open for the third time that evening, letting in another biting draft of wintry air that made the duo of war-hardened commanders shiver. The Commander of Beta-1, Eric “Epicap” Cappington, stood up from his bench with a grunt and moved to the canvas flap, lowering it and tying it into place yet again.

Might as well have joined Delta-14 if I was gonna freeze my ass off anyway,” muttered Epicap through his clenched chattering teeth.

The winter storm numbed Epicap’s fingers but it was a welcome reprieve from the attacks by the Chaos Insurgency all over the mountain.

Rui “Rudy” Mercer, the Commander of Nu-7 chuckled as he flattened out their map on the table that had been shuffled by the previous gust like so many other documents across their table. As Epicap walked back to his bench, he rubbed his freezing hands together and huffed some of his warm breath into them. The bench creaked as Epicap’s eyes focused back on the map of the region. Small red markings dotted the map to show where their patrol’s had been struck unawares within the last couple of days.

Coldest winter out here in two goddamn decades and -7 orders us on a goosechase in the mountains,” Rudy said while clenching his fists.

Rudy’s eyes glared at the map, rarely ever blinking. Epicap gave a glance at Rudy’s hardened face and grimaced. Rudy still had his confidence, but the man had never been quite the same after the unknown Group of Interest and SCP-323 incident. There was more paranoia in everything he said and his normal motions. Even now, Epicap could tell Rudy was just searching for some hint of a pattern that would prove everything the Nu-7 members had theorized.

Rudy took a sip from a copper mug on the table, his eyes flickering for a brief moment. With a heavy sigh he exclaimed,

It just doesn’t make sense! Chaos Insurgents never attack so… chaotically? Normally there’s at least some pattern, but what the hell are they fighting all over this mountain to retrieve?

Epicap shrugged and felt the bitter chill in his shoulders with every part of the motion. The details of this mission had been sparse and withheld from the start. The Overseer sending them away just to fight Chaos Insurgency on a snow covered mountain made little sense either. Sending both B-1 and Nu-7 out without any idea of what they were fighting for, nor any time to prepare meant that, as per usual, the Overseer knew something that Epicap couldn’t and time was running short to figure it out.

Rudy’s fist slammed the table, scattering one of the few untouched stacks of papers to the ground. The pages softly fluttered to the floor and Epicap bent down to pick them up.

Rudy...” Epicap said in a flat tone with a smirk, “... you know I’m not your maid or even your subordinate any more right?

You don’t need to remind me,” Rudy replied with a chuckle while he unclenched his fist. “Crazy enough we’re both where we are considering the close calls we’ve endured together.

And we didn’t get here by slamming tables… well not too often at least.

Epicap grabbed the map with one hand and turned it to face himself. Rudy was hot-blooded, but one of the best commanders the Foundation ever created. If that commander thought this wasn’t like the Chaos Insurgency, he was likely onto something. Setting down the papers he gathered from the floor, Epicap looked closer at each of the skirmish sites seemingly random in nature and slowly the cold and the silence creeped back into the tent. The only audible sound was the howling wind hurling snow around, only for it to form larger drifts around the tent.

Rudy took another sip from his mug and began sorting the pages that Epicap had set down. The Nu-7 soldier turned towards the tent flaps, finally breaking his staring contest with the map.

Really piling up out there. Might need to reach out to Comman...

Rudy trailed off, his sentence hanging in the air. Epicap looked up at Rudy and saw the sudden shock sprawling across the Nu-7’s face. With a small flourish, Epicap quickly flipped the map back to face Rudy. Before Epicap could blink, Rudy had picked up the red marker and began adding notations all over the map. His marker moved rapidly drawing and writing next to places, creating an inky sprawl of red in strange shapes. The marks started to coincide with topography, various paths and cliffs seemingly untouched until…

Oh shit.

Ohhhh shiiiiit.

Rudy sprinted and grabbed his Barrett along with a box of .50 cal bullets from under the bench. Epicap was drawing out his AS VAL from a nearby box as he watched Rudy dash to the tent flap and start undoing the knots.

Wait!” Epicap shouted, “It’s a goddamn blizzard, we still need shelter!

I’d rather lose a few toes to frostbite than die in a fucking avalanche!

The tent interior steeped in the silence left by the absence of the commanders for its final moments. The flap banging wildly once again untied.

Then the mountain echoed with a thunderous cracking and rumbling roar.

Chapter 2:
Sunk Cost Operations

Featured In-Game Characters:
  • CI MCOM “Javelin”
  • CI BCOM “Dealer”

Chaos Insurgency MCOM “Javelin” squinted as the avalanche spread down the mountainside below him. Although the Foundation’s camp was out of sight, he had no doubt that their sorry bundled-up asses would be cozied up in their tents during this supernaturally horrible blizzard. Command had outdone themselves this time coming up with this operation to lure out the Foundation’s forces and crush them in one fell swoop.

Since the last of his men had returned to the field base minutes before, Javelin could finally breathe out a single sigh of relief. The operation and his team performed flawlessly for the last couple of days despite the terrible terrain and lack of knowledge of the region. Javelin could imagine Nu-7 Commander Rudy’s face twisted with frustration at the very idea of being outmaneuvered at every corner of this mountain. That image warmed Javelin’s face a bit, before he snapped back to reality and once again focused on the avalanche.

Footsteps echoed on the cavern’s floor behind him, barely audible over the avalanche itself. Javelin turned to see BCOM “Dealer” approaching, flanked by two rugged Gammas. The three of them stopped on the lip of the cliff outside the cavern and Dealer’s smile spread across his face.

I can’t believe it worked! I had a few doubts about that mysterious guy and these anomalies of his, but it went flawlessly!

Javelin smirked and nodded, turning back to see the snow spiral down the mountainside. Of course he had a tinge of worry regarding the “mysterious gentleman” that had spoken with the Commander before the operation was handed off to him. Two unknown anomalies seemed too good to believe if they could spawn a blizzard this insane and create ground tremors in a controlled location. His anxieties lessened while he watched his reward slam down cliff after cliff.

Have one of your men go turn off ‘Frostbite’ and wait a few minutes to turn off ‘Tremors’ after,” ordered Javelin.

One of the overeager Gammas hustled back towards the cavern to handle the order.

I still wonder how the hell that guy controlled the leak to Foundation’s command so expertly. Any idea who he was?

Javelin shook his head, some snow coming loose and landing on his shoulders. This wouldn’t be his first successful operation, but it was stacked to possibly be the peak of his operation docket. He gagged at the idea of outside assistance contributing so much with the leaks, anomalies, and even some extra weapons of a higher caliber for their soldiers. Nobody would give so much for just charity, but Command refused to allow inquiries into the mysterious new player on the scene.

Not sure I expected everything to go this smoothly. Normally at least something unexpected crops up,” Javelin uttered, his mind lost in his thoughts again.

Command’s going to be handing out promotions like crazy,” Dealer said with a joyful tone as he elbowed Javelin’s side playfully. “Don’t worry so much, sir.

Let’s get the job done first then celebrate, Dealer. Still got to see if any survived.

The message-carrying Gamma from earlier returned and shared a nod with Dealer. The blizzard would halt any minute and the hunt for the avalanche survivors would initiate as planned. Finally the Chaos Insurgency would be rid of an overwhelming number of Nu-7 and Beta-1 at such a minor amount of casualties, it was almost laughable.

Javelin’s stomach turned as a gnawing dread crept over him. At least the main Nu-7 and B-1 forces would finally be terminated once and for all giving the local Insurgency members the chance to seize Site-65.What reason did he have to feel so nervous? The hairs on the back of his neck stood up.

The quiet Gamma on the cliff squinted off further, his feet never having left the spot by Dealer’s side despite how visibly cold he was in the blizzard. He opened his mouth to speak.

The gamma’s head became a red powder as it erupted in all directions. Javelin and Dealer hit the ground as the sound of the unmistakable .50 caliber weapon echoed over the fresh powdered snow to their ears.

God damn it, Rudy,” hissed Javelin.

Javelin hustled back into the cave as the sounds of panic spread inside, Dealer following closely behind him. Clearly the hunt for the survivors was starting, but the prey still bared its teeth and their bite was still vicious.
