What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Removes the feature of having your breach timer paused during an ongoing containment breach.
On the rare occasion I feel like sitting through breach queue to breach as an SCP, I am willing to wait some amount of time. The breach timer should be my expectation, not a suggestion.
When my breach timer gets paused several times in a row for whatever else is breached (096, CI Hack, 008, etc.,) I am faced with a decision to either leave queue having wasted the time I spent waiting and doing nothing (because SCP roleplay has deeper underlying issues that make it so terrible to play...)
OR
I tough it out and spend and gamble my time against a timer that is essentially just a slap in the face. 2 hours remaining? Nah, it will probably be 4+ hours in reality. Either way, my time is wasted to some capacity because breaching as an SCP no longer becomes worth it past a certain point of waiting.
I understand that breaching is not the sole point of the server (more like MTF simulator,) but if I have the option to play as an SCP, I have the reasonable expectation I get to actually play and do something, whether it is breaching or just roleplaying. Most SCPs do not even get the chance to talk to someone outside of sampling (and no, sampling is not valid rp if they are just there to use you for 5 minutes at best,) because what are you realistically going to test on something like 9000 who is literally just a manic killing zombie. You only have yourself and OOC to pass the time, or maybe you are lucky enough that CI is daring to HCZ to hack you out (but that is just luck at that point, not waiting.)
I am mainly venting on from my own experiences waiting to breach, but it seriously is a deep problem with SCPs on the server. SCPs are not the sole point, but they are pretty damn important to the whole idea of the Foundation and its innerworkings. The server itself can function without them, but then it is not SCP rp at that point. What is SCPRP without the SCPs??? I really feel that SCPs just exist to fulfill that condition to label the server as "SCPRP."
Obviously removing breach timer pausing is not going to fix the whole web of complications with SCPs in the server, but if I cannot even play the SCP I want to for even one day out of the week, then what is the point of trying to play SCP at all? There is no decent or an amount of roleplay that justifies playing SCP (except MAYBE some of the passive SCPs, but that is a big MAYBE in my opinion.)
I know the Development Team is trying to find a good balance with breaching and the rest of foundation, but maybe they could add some more opportunities for roleplay in the form of unique interactions between SCPs and some other things outside of breaching? I am no aficionado in SCP lore, but I know there is a good deal of cross-testing forums between many of the mainline SCPs that spur interesting ideas. Can anyone seriously tell me the last time they held a cross-testing with ANY SCPs in the server? Plus, more interviews would genuinely be cool roleplay. Just getting to talk to people while waiting would drastically improve my experience as an SCP. I think that is a fault on RSD for making SCPs so boring, but I know there is an incentive program suggestion approved so hopefully that will change the balance for the better.
By the way, in the time it took me to formulate this suggestion post in its entirety, my breach timer has been paused (for the 3rd time,) and I have been first in breach queue for nearly 3 hours in total (my breach timer last read 2 hours and 30 minutes.)
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different:
Probably, but I did not see anything.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
Less time waiting to breach
More opportunities to "play" as SCPs
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
More breaches interrupting foundation
Backlash from MTF and RSD mains
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
A step towards making SCPs a more enjoyable role to play and interact with. Plus, you must agree the time for waiting to breach is absolutely atrocious. You would be lucky to breach before the server restarted. I think I said enough previously, but to restate, waiting time is terrible and scps do not get to roleplay often enough to warrant forcing them to wait longer to do the only thing they can do.
