Why are you applying for Director of Research?
I am making a Director of Research application because I think I've put a lot of time and effort into research already while holding the executive role, and I feel like at this point I'm ready to move up by not just running experiments but shaping the way that research is done. Over time, I've learned how to keep things running while under a lot of pressure, and how to adapt and keep people focused, when things are changing. I want to be in a position where I can take all that experience and actually do something with it. I want to help set higher standards for how people conduct research and how we manage our researchers and handle the risks that come with what we do. I've seen what it looks like when a team has a great leader, and I've seen what it looks like when we don't. And I know I can bring leadership and direction in the way that research needs.I've also been around the site long enough to know that research is not easy. We need communication between departments and someone to step in when things start to go wrong. I feel like I could be that person, someone who is in love with research and can also see the bigger picture of this department. I care about doing things the right way, and I care about researchers, feelings, and want to support them. I care about making sure that the foundation gets the information that it needs without any risk. That is why I'm implying, because I believe I can make a real difference in research.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
The reason why I think I'm suitable for the Director of Research is because I've been through everything. Running tests, working on documents, adapting to things that don't go to plan, I've worked my way up so that I can understand everything about research. I've spent late nights and crazy hours and at those times you need to step up and take control, which helped me learn how to manage pressure. I'm also organized without being too much of a dictator. I like having a schedule, but I also know change is important. And definitely when change is dealing with anomalies, people, and unexpected outcomes. I've learned to make plans to adjust and help me through those hard times without any slip-ups. And that's something you only learn through experience. To me, what really matters is that I don't see the Director of Research as overseeing people. I see it as helping support and guide them, helping researchers stay focused, and pushing them for higher standards, making sure that every test has purpose and is not lost. As an executive, I've been that person that people turn to for advice, help, and support. And I'm confident that stepping into this role is needed for me. Finally, to conclude, I care about communications between departments, ranks, and people. I've seen when things easily fall apart because of silence, and I want to make it a priority to connect people. And that mindset is what I bring to the Director of Research role. Someone who's calm, under pressure, invested, and ready.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
The Director of Research is the one that keeps the entire Research Department functioning. They don't just do that by papers, but by their involvement on-site. They're responsible for setting the tone of research and making sure that tests are done safely and have purpose. And all researchers know what they're doing and why they're doing it. That means reviewing and approving tests, guiding new researchers, and ensuring all ethical and regular standards are being followed. Especially during emergencies. Directors of Research are the figureheads of research and represent their department to site administration, security teams, and site command. Directors of research are the change of research. That means reviewing documents, denying tests, and stepping in when researchers push the boundary. This is all controlled by the directors, and they have a large-scale effect on the individual departments. But finally, they're leaders. Someone that you can look up to for direction and help. Also, that means they're always available, visible, and approachable. Not just being locked away in their office. They're showing up, mentoring, and cooperating, keeping the whole system running.
