What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:
I am applying for the position of Ethics Committee Member. I believe it is time for me to step into a leadership role where my actions can meaningfully shape not just a department, but the broader experience for everyone on-site. I have spent considerable time observing the impact that strong, consistent leadership can have, and I am ready to bring that level of direction and accountability to the Ethics Committee.
This role requires more than just a title. It demands a presence that is deliberate, fair, and unafraid to make the difficult calls. I intend to uphold the standards expected of the Committee while reinforcing a culture that values responsibility, depth, and meaningful engagement. Through thoughtful decisions and consistent oversight, I aim to contribute to a foundation that not only reacts to situations, but actively improves them.
What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
Since ascending to the role of Director of Research, I've been the ideal candidate fulfilling all the quality role playing anticipated from the position and the quality expectations of myself and others. I've come to realize, with time, what I can get away with, and what is expected me to a degree beyond execution, for I always strive for more.
What a member of the Ethics Committee must do is acknowledge the entire community the strengths, and weaknesses, seldom discussed but compassionate, yet triaging gray area in between. I've always maintained a balanced perspective, an advocate for positive change no matter how difficult or uncomfortable it may be to say. I feel as if too many people want to focus on the bright side only, not acknowledging that just as much honesty about challenges is just as important for a truly effective and sustainable endeavor.
A first before gaming is an atmosphere that doesn't have to be clean and clear all of the time. It needs to change. It needs to recognize that stories have successes and failures avoiding failures only avoids successes. As a potential member of the Ethics Committee, my goal is to solidify expectations, but the bedrock is so strong that it can take failures in stride. In addition, my disposition is even-keeled, thoughtful, and, most importantly, dedicated to what would be best for the server's future.
I don't fix, I augment. That's where I bring the most value.
What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
An Ethics Committee Member plays a role in maintaining the ethical standards of the Foundation. Therefore, we are oftentimes the harbingers of bad news that others would rather ignore. We are the faces that ensure that all action in the name of scientific discovery, security, or survival, that's taken does not completely forsake the principles upon which we say we stand. We are the ones who approve any testing on human lives; we decide whether such testing is worthwhile, and if it's not, our lives must shoulder the burden of inaction. No false pretense exists from our perspective. We speak truth to power honestly, for power must be wielded correctly, and an ethical oversight committee serves to remind those in charge of what they may not want to hear.
We exist in all places all at once outside of the laboratory. We review inter-departments, we integrate ourselves quasi-invisibly into everyday goings-on and receive the proper context to assess whether or not intervention is necessary where its needed. If we feel that standards have not been maintained, we come forth. This can be as minor as sending citations via our Assistants to multidisciplinary intervention with Internal Security to sending MTF Omega-1 when immediate action is needed to restore balance.
During breaches or class-A emergencies, we team up with Site Secured to oversee their efforts or take over if command has been compromised. We hold tribunals and vote on changes to the Legal and Ethical Codices and make sure MTF Omega-1 stays focused on its missions relative to our quality assurance endeavors.
But most importantly, the Committee does not stand in the way of Foundation actions that would otherwise make the Foundation look bad. The Committee exists so that we remember what humane action is in the face of necessary action. We don't exist to stop what needed to be done. We exist to assess whether it needs to be done at all. And if it doesn't? We step in.

The Ethics Committee votes and approves new applications of other upper-level staff which dictate and enforce the rules of the server. For instance, the Ethics Committee votes and approves new Internal Security Directors, Ethics Committee Assistants, Omega-1 Commanders, and even prospective Ethics Committee Members after proper review to ensure they're a good fit for not only the position but in-character and out-of-character expectations as well.
