What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Not quite in tandem with, but in similar nature to my previous suggestion about the flow of suggestions, this intends to improve overall subforum... I guess, just presence of information at a quick glance? What I'm thinking is, CT could either make a new stickied post or add to the current formatting/FAQ post, some things that we could add or otherwise include in our suggestions, dependant on what our suggestion is.
Some examples I can think off of the top of my head are title tags, things we could write before our suggestion title like [NFCT], (not for CT) for example, there's an active suggestion about perma pricing. IIRC, that's more of an NL thing - Intended for that, really. Maybe [LC] (loadout change)?, intended for stuff like the loadout suggestions that have happened before (especially since they have a specific section in the FAQ regarding them) - and can range from something like the simple 'add cameras to researchers' suggestion that was accepted before, to the gensec loadouts change suggestion that was accepted before, to the currently active dea loadouts suggestion. In fact on that topic, there should be some kind of tag related to vjobeditor alterations like that, as opposed to large scale changes that, as well as balance concerns, require more effort to actually implement, but I'm unsure what to call that. Some other examples of potential title tags:
- [QoL]: Quality of Life change, simple.
- [External]: Whether a suggestion refers to making a change that is related to the server, but either more or entirely about something that is not in-game; Such as something for Discord, TS or other miscellaneous thing like official department documents.
- [DM]/[DP]: Dev - Modelling and Dev - Programming, respectively; Suggestions that have an explicit focus or at least, more to one of these areas than the other, for example, a substantial mapping change, job model change - Or something that would need a programmatic alteration to SCP behaviour. And anything that would need both would probably need a different tag altogether.
- [Bal]: Balance concerns
- [US]/[UK]: Another simple one, if a suggestion is like specifically just about either the US or UK server, since this subforum covers both - Although would be hard to apply without knowing specifically what does and doesn't affect just one server, so i.e. permaprops, changes to perma things (i.e. keycard scanners), vs.new SCPs (not that you want those atm, but it's an example of something that affects both servers), job loadout changes, whatever other things are and aren't able to be server-specific, I forgot
- Maybe tags related to specific systems or plugins like vcraft? I know I mentioned before about vjobeditor changes, but that was more about the simplicity of the task rather than the plugin itself - Lately, there's been a significant amount of suggestions regarding stuff like chemicals, attachments, food and other assorted things that each have their own related plugin - Might be worth having one of those if necessary.
But other than tags, in that post also tell us things would be extremely helpful for you from each suggestion you would read. Like again, the FAQ has some stuff, especially about looking into the dev tracker to see if something we're going to suggest is already there, but I want to know more specifically like, what sort of things should we be thinking about when we write a suggestion in relation to whatever specific part of the server we're making a suggestion for? The basic gameplay loop of whatever jobs we might be impacting with our suggestion, overall balance issues, population split, anything that should ideally be taken into account and looked into by us, when we say "Hey, we'd like this changed and here's why." The onus to be informed of and look into everything related to a suggestion we make is always on us, so I think you saying "Hey, to improve the quality of the suggestion you're writing, try and do such and such," would make things easier for everyone involved.
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
In stark contradiction to some things I've said here, this is actually one of few suggestions I have not put research into any prior suggestions of its nature - As its literally just asking for either a forum post or an alteration to an existing forum post. I would be very shocked if there was an existing suggestion that asked for that and on top of that, for something of this nature.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
- Makes things easier for CT? - Imagine being able to just look at the page of suggestions and seeing at that moment, which ones would be more or less complex, more or less difficult to attend to (more so than just trying to figure that out from the title), which ones are actually things CT can tend to (like the aforementioned perma pricing suggestion), etc.
- Potential improvements to speed and accuracy of suggestions resolution - If the suggestions are being tagged appropriately, then they can be resolved in a more orderly fashion; Less complex suggestions can be seen to quicker, etc. etc.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- People not using tags properly - As much as you can explain something to someone, people will still either not get it or otherwise misinterpret and might just write the incorrect tag for their suggestion or even one that doesn't apply at all.
- Tags get underused - Ultimately if they don't end up being used, then effectively all that's happened is that CT's wasted valuable time writing some guidelines.
- More information = More time to process it - ...Or it could just end up backfiring entirely with everyone giving like full novellas of suggestions that specifically and minutely detail what it is the suggestion is asking for, what suggestions were similar in what way and how their suggestions differ, as well as every conceivable positive & negative regarding the implementation of their suggestion, which... I mean yes, complete information is helpful, but then you're just constantly trawling through swaths of material on a suggestion that might otherwise not really need it.
- Titles can't fully cover either all applicable tags, summarily title their suggestion or both - Hey, so I found the forum title character limit. Didn't realise that was a thing.
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
I think this would be a useful change that would help improve the quality of incoming suggestions and just generally outline what is expected from us by CT.
