What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:
Ethics Committee Member - I have been a Director of ISD for quite some time now. I've gained significant experience handling multiple difficult scenarios throughout my time as Director. The current leadership team (I believe) is one of the strongest we have, and I hope the guidance and changes DoISD-ex Tim, Slater, and I have made have empowered ISD. I sincerely believe ISD is now in a comfortable position where I can pass the mantle to someone else and take up a more significant role on site, hopefully taking the roleplay away from revolving around ISDxDpt.XXX to a more site-wide involvement.

I’ve enjoyed creating RP for ISD through empowering ISD at all levels to strive to investigate and create RP with personnel rather than the defacto arrest. I’ve also enjoyed liaising with Omega-1 since my tenure as DoISD and would like to continue and improve on this.

I’ve enjoyed the tribunals I have conducted as an Ethics Committee Assistant, I’ve leaned into helping and guiding other assistants and ethics members into how to conduct tribunals and my hope is to continue to improve, develop and increase the roleplay the server writ large can conduct with tribunals.

What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
  • I think there’s multiple reasons why I would be the best candidate for a role on the committee.

ISD
  • I’ve been with ISD since the start of my time back in this community. I’ve seen Directors, O5 and Ethics Members come and go. From how I see it, people apply [Sometimes told to with sharp sticks] for these positions because they see something which can affect a significant change to the server and/or community for the positive, and those changes typically will outlast you. To me also I think it shows this server is never stagnant, people come in with new ideas, new suggestions, and I think we as a community should endeavour to promote these ideas.
  • ISD has come on leaps and bounds since my ascension to the director. I’ve had some fantastic mentors in the past, which has really given me some deep insight into how ISD position themselves within the Foundation, but also how closely we [ISD] work with the committee. In my time as DoISD, I’ve hopefully created countless minor RP scenarios for all members of this site, from our Security Checkpoints (Julien, you owe me 10% of those fees) to the multiple complex past and ongoing operations and investigations, to the multiple interrogations and other mini scenarios I’ve created.

  • I’ve worked with our former Director (Miss you, Tim) on identifying a Unit within ISD - Records Keeping, which was lacking substance and significant ability to conduct RP within their unit. Identifying this and with the Tribunal Rework I was writing (More to come on that), we empowered the unit by making them lead on Tribunals. These would be SMEs on the tribunal rework and its procedures and policies.

  • This is less RP-related and more administrative. However, I noticed unfairness in how we, as ISD, conducted interviews in the past. I have revamped our interviews (which I don’t think have ever been updated since Broda changed them). The changes have updated how we assess and interview candidates, as well as a standardised system which ensures fairness for all candidates. (Also happy for COs to contact me on this for a copy) Thus, ensuring we get the best candidates for the job. It has also enabled me to identify areas for improvement for both the Inspectors and Commissioners, and so push them into scenarios which will develop them in those areas, making them more rounded and knowledgeable individuals.

Ethics
  • My other personality, Hershal, has seen the entire rework of our Tribunal System. This has fundamentally changed how we perceive and conduct tribunals as a Site. Since this rework, I’ve seen a significant increase in roleplay at all levels. RP is no longer locked behind a license or a requirement of a set clearance level. If you want a janitor to be your counsel, by all means go for it. These changes have also empowered ISD to take more responsibility, acting as prosecutors, which is enabling them to interview and investigate across the site to actually prove their case. It also shows the operations we [ISD] conduct actually do have substance to them - Multiple individuals have been brought to justice through operations my ISD have submitted. Just a last point on this, I also hope and do sincerely think this change has brought ISD and Ethics/Omega-1 closer due to how close they've been liaising together on these.
  • I have many aspirations with the tribunal rework, and I hope to expand on this in due course once I join the committee. I’m happy to discuss ideas on this in person, but I’d like to keep the cards close to my chest on this till I’ve finished writing it.

General Experience
  • I’ve also strived to understand every facet of the Foundation, I’ve sat in Site Admin meetings when they’re talking with the Research Department, and I’ve sat and spoken with members from Medical and General Security. I understand the issues faced by these departments and have made active efforts within ISD to improve those issues you’ve identified within my department, and would like to hopefully enact further improvements for you as a committee member.
  • Moreover, in terms of RP ability, I’d cast your minds to the RangerRP Dingle, myself and others did. This actively gave Nu-7 and DEA some quite fun and challenging roleplay, but also incorporated both GOC and CI. I cannot remember the last time the Foundation, GOC and CI all worked together to storm a police station [with a tank]. I think scenarios like that, bringing everyone, every corner of the server is incredibly important and unique. I hope to strive to deliver more of those.

Leadership
  • As a committee member, you are a leader of the Foundation, but you are also a role-play leader. Your job isn’t combative (Since I’m a terrible shot) it is to create, pursue and develop roleplay events throughout the Site. I had the pleasure of leading the entirety of NATO on MRP and always strived to create spontaneous events, but to also delegate the authority to more junior officers, empowering them to have the ability to make decisions on their own. I’ve always been happy to sit down with people, mentor and guide them - I think this is an incredibly important quality not only in a Committee member but in life.

Critique and feedback
  • Being a Director within ISD, we [ISD] are typically seen as the hated department within the Site. With that comes some complaining, but also some valuable and critical feedback, which I don’t always know. To improve ISD, I even created a survey to understand people's concerns and feedback points on not only where ISD can improve, but also where my leadership can, and most importantly, where I can for the department. I think it’s imperative that any person in the committee (or any lead position) has the capacity to take on critique and feedback and look for ways to improve oneself.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
  • You are the advisory committee for the Foundation, including the O5 council. You are there to ensure that not necessarily everything is ethical, but that the ends justify the means. The Committee are on the same level as the O5 council; however, the Committee must maintain the illusion of their simple nature of being pencil pushers.

  • General liaising with the rest of Foundation Command and other Site Staff to ensure that any decisions which will affect these departments, their voices are heard, and mitigations/changes can be put in place.

  • If the current Overseer council becomes untenable, through the means of Primary Action, a vote to remove said council and have them replaced in their entirety or individually with person(s) who are acceptable to the Committee and are trusted to uphold the mission statement.

  • Maintaining oversight of the Foundation Legal Codex (FLC) and working with the Internal Security Department to ensure the Codex is upheld by all departments.

  • Ethics Committee Members are also required to conduct tribunals for Foundation personnel.

  • Liaising with the current Omega-1 (IE) regimental command, ensuring they feel supported in all capacities and assisting them with their ongoing operations.

  • Managing the current cadre of Ethics Committee Assistants.

  • Authorisation of certain actions - Code Black, Advanced Armoury, Site-wide amnestication and ERT.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g. what applications do they handle?):
  • Director of ISD (DoISD)
  • Ethics Committee Assistants
  • Ethics Committee Members
  • Omega-1 Commander
  • Not only applications, but also ensuring consistent liaison between all areas of FCOM and that changes proposed are acceptable and appropriate to ensure all players will enjoy them.
  • Ensure RP standards throughout the site are maintained.
  • Being a guide/mentor to individuals who request assistance, be that through how to write certain guides/documents, or giving friendly but honest advice to individuals.

Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee character and what storylines they would be involved in:

Hersh has been a great help to ISD a strong pillar we could all rely on, no matter the topic or the time. He was always there for us, even WHEN he insulted me whenever I broke the roster. I still appreciate him and would love to see him take the next step, even if we will miss him. 07 Goodspeed Hershy boi
