I am Applying for Ethics Committee Member.
There's a few reasons this is coming out now, rather than sooner, as I am well aware there have been open slots for some time.
- The Day of Reckoning -
This has already passed by the time I upload this application, and currently there are no Committee Members with the exception of the Chairman himself. Due to this, as well as the knowledge of other applications coming through. I though that I would throw my hat into the ring. I'm aware that I would be a returning person to the Committee, having served as a Member for 3 months prior. However, I'm simply looking for another shot at the position. Some people may not like returning players, but given I've spent about a year since being ECM in different positions, I hope it will not be viewed negatively. Working with new faces in the Committee would be wonderful and I would look forward to engaging with them on an administrative level. I've mostly been sitting on this app for about 3 weeks deciding whether I should go for it or not, and I've finally decided what I'll be doing.
- My Previous Time -
I've been a Committee Member previously, and I believe I did alright, but it could have very much been better. I've been mulling over making an application for some time, since slots were open, and while I'm comfortable in my current position as O-1 MAJ, I'm more than prepared to give Ethics another spin, to hopefully leave off better than I had last time. I do regret not taking full opportunity of the position when I was last in it, and it's always nagged at me. Hell, I even got striked in my first month as ECM, which was an owned up to mistake on my part that I made sure never happened again. I simply wish to give it another go, and fully outperform my last time in the position. I'm looking to improve in all ways since my previous time in the position position, and outperform in every way possible.
- Return to Pencil Pusher -
I've been playing combative roles for a while now, most prominently being in A-1 for around 11 months, and now O-1 for around 2 months, and I do miss the non-combative playstyle every now and then, even with the current climate of the server. Of course there are other positions that would fit for the non-combative playstyle, however given the reasons above, I felt this should be added as well. I would argue that, out of all my positions, Site Administration provided me the most entertainment from a work perspective, while ECM provided me with an entertaining and critical view of how I should conduct myself. And, quite honestly, I think I'm more fitted for a non-combative position, although I do enjoy AO a good amount, and my time recently in O-1 has been amazing. The roleplay that I enjoy most is nothing to do with holding a gun, although it can still be done with one. The duties that come with a combative role interfere with the sort of roleplay that I prefer, so moving back to a non-combative position would be beneficial in kicking that back into high gear.
What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
- Experience -
Over the 2+ years I've spent on this server, I've spent a lot of my time in different roles, as you may have seen above or in my signature. Funnily enough, most of my roles have been directly connected with FCOM and Ethics, with my Alpha-1 and Omega-1 CO roles having experience with the combative side, while my roles within Site Administration, as well as Ethics Committee Assistant and Ethics Committee Member being directly within FCOM and Ethics. I've spent a lot of time engaging in and helping roleplay within the server, and hope to continue doing so if I am to be accepted. On top of this, and more specifically, roles such as Site Manager, Ethics Assistant and Ethics Member have provided me with a great deal of administrative experience, where these roles flourish most. Although it can be said that all the roles I have achieved here have had an administrative aspect to them. Holding and organising meetings, helping to settle disputes and attempt to rebuild relations, from small interactions to larger ones, I've gone through it all.
- From Both Sides -
Within my characters [As well as mostly within my OOC behaviour] I try to keep a fair outlook of certain situations and events that may transpire. A perspective from both sides of the coin should be taken when handling situations that could lead to the changes within a department/regiment is critical in finding balance. Understanding what the other side is dealing with and what they are able to manage is key. I quite enjoy engaging in departments, whether it be simple observation or getting my hands dirty. On another note, that you may or may not agree with, I find meetings to be quite entertaining and rather enjoyable. Simply sitting down with someone or a few people and discussing topics with them I find a nice time, even if the conversation is negative. Being able to build up a rapport and have that level of conversation with people enables a greater understanding of what they need to be able to work better, as well as their department/regiment. While nothing is certain to happen from them, it shows progress and development. Ethics don't use euphemisms, so best to tackle things head on!
I have the understanding that departments do not run perfectly, I know that people have complaints and issues and everything isn't so rose-tinted as others wish they would be. I'm of the understanding that before someone must engage with a department and try and change it or suggest change, they should first realise and understand where they are at that current moment, and either work to help them, or move forward with their plans.
- Roleplay Server -
Roleplay, roleplay, roleplay... What the server should be about [Controversial I know]. I've spent most of my 2+ years on the server invested in the roleplay of the server, helping to further and create it along my paths, when I'm not shooting SCP's or fighting CI. The amount of RP situations, scenarios and storylines I've participated in is probably uncountable. For example, two RP scenarios that have been centrally created were those two times I got accused of treason and executed for talking to the GOC [Yes I'm still hung up about it]. When I was A-1 COM, I was heavily involved in a storyline centred around DoM Kayla, where I helped steer the storyline in ways that would best suit the interests of myself In Character. There are some other things; such as the Hearing against myself when I was A-1 COM, a project I ran as Site Manager called Homo Lunae [I intend to pick this back up, though with a different goal], the numerous amounts of roleplay interaction I had with GOC such as when I held a meeting to discuss a ceasefire during a war when all other ceasefires had failed. More recently there have been many operations I have participated in within O-1, which unfortunately I cannot detail cause classified, but one I can detail is when we had to act on the Committee's best interests against one of our own.
I have some plans for roleplay that I wish to kick off if I am to get the position, documents will be able to be located in the final section of this application. They will be brief, as I'm not looking to spoil anything, however they will give an explanation as to what I am aiming for.
What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
- Committee Duties -
- Be an advisory body for Foundation Staff, even the O5 Council
- Maintaining and upholding the Foundation Legal Codex
- Managing the Ethics Committee Assistants
- Overseeing Internal Security Department and its taskings
- Acting as Presiding Judge of Tribunals when necessary
- Discussing with O5 in regards to joint FCOM decisions
- Discussion with departments on matters IC that involve their input
- Authorisation of Mass Termination of D-Class when necessary
- Authorising a Code Black when staff need to evacuate due to ongoing breach or threat of CI activating the warhead
- Activation of the Alpha Warhead when the site has been lost
- Authorisation of Site-wide amnestication if there is a large infobreach, or an 008 breach has been successfully contained
- Helping to manage and assist MTF Omega-1 where necessary
- Advising on what is necessary and acceptable for the Foundations progression
- Being a reliable and respected public figure
- Ensure that research underway follows the guidelines of the Department, and does not breath the FLC
- Ensuring that there is no misuse of D-Class for testing purposes
- Advising what is necessary for the purposes of research progression
- Shadowing the O5 Council, ensuring that they are acting in the best interests of the Foundation
- Hold those within the Foundation accountable
- Do what is best for the interests of the Mission Statement, deem what is acceptable to do
- Primary Action, when absolutely necessary and as a last resort
What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g. what applications do they handle?):
- Applications -
- Handling Ethics Committee Assistant applications via consensus with the other Committee Members
- Handling Director of Internal Security Department applications via consensus with the other Committee Members
- Handling the appointment of MTF Omega-1 Commanders via consensus with the other Committee Members
- Weighing in on fellow Ethics Committee Member applications
- Providing feedback on O5 applications [Handled by O5]
- Providing feedback on Site Director applications [Handled by O5]
- General OOC Duties -
- Liaising with the O5 Council and Site Admin in an OOC manner to discuss issues that may occur
- Maintaining OOC documentations, and creating them when needed
- Discussion with other departments regarding OOC matters
- Assist Site Admin in overseeing departments
- Maintaining the FLC from an OOC perspective
- Providing constructive feedback on matters that may affect the server

For this time around, I plan to bring back Christopher Hawthorne.
The reason for this is due to the under utilisation of the character when I first used him. The storyline I had planned for him was stopped before it began, which I was slightly annoyed with. So, for the purposes of this application, and for if I am accepted, I will be reintroducing this character.
