Why are you applying for Director of Internal Security?
Recently our long-time directors have stepped down, or were promoted to higher positions outside of the Internal Security Department, resulting in an opening within the Director level. All of our other commissioners were recently hired on as commissioner, leaving me as the most senior/oldest commissioner on staff. As such, I feel an obligation to my department and the foundation to apply to the Director position as the most senior commissioner, so that our new commissioners have time to learn and grow in their new senior leadership roles as commissioners without being forced all the way up in to a director position, which would be a lot of additional responsibility to put on someone who had just recently entered a senior leadership position.
What makes you suitable for Director of Internal Security?:
I have spent nearly all of my time with Civil Networks working within the Internal Security Department. I have a wide variety of experience within the department, having served as both the head of Investigations and recently as the head of Prosecution. I’ve hosted countless trainings, lectures, and mini-events over the past 9 months of playing Civil Networks. I’ve prosecuted several tribunals at different levels, and will be able to help guide the department through nearly every form of RP that it can experience since I would be coming in to the position having been exposed to almost every RP aspect of ISD so far. I enjoy interacting with all of the people within the ISD department, new and old, and I enjoy seeing people have fun in the department, and I strive to ensure that ISD RP is preserved within the foundation so that it can continue to be enjoyed as a unique and crucial element of the server.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Internal Security in RP?:
The director of ISD is responsible for the oversight and direction of the entire department, through close communication and coordination with the Commissioners reporting to them, as well as to a lesser extent through direct interaction with junior leadership and occasionally at the Investigator and Agent/Operative level as well for certain events and situations. Progressing from a commissioner to a director transitions one more so away from the day-to-day operations of the department, and instead turns to more of a high-level operational manager and resolver of conflicts, both within the IS department and between the IS department and other departments. Unusual situations faced by the commissioners running day-to-day operations within their sub-departments that can’t be resolved on their own are brought to the attention of the directors, who are responsible for providing guidance and answers for those situations. Additionally, the directors interface with higher-level site leadership, and roll down updates from those interactions and meetings to the Internal Security Department as needed, as well as rolling-up feedback from the IS department. Lastly, on a meta-level, the Directors try to coordinate RP and events for their department to ensure that the players within their department have exposure to new and novel experiences to keep the roleplay experience fresh with variety when possible.
Please give some lore about your Director of Internal Security character and what storylines they would be involved in:
Bazyli Kowalczyk is a 32 year old Polish immigrant, with a professional background in atomic physics & engineering from the Politechnika Warszawska (Warsaw University of Technology). Upon graduating university, Bazyli was recruited in to the SCP Foundation by [REDACTED] and was stationed initially at Foundation Facility Site 120 located in Częstochowa, Silesian Voivodeship; and provided occasional consultation support for Site 54 located in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. Bazyli had initially been recruited in to the foundation to assist in further particle research on [REDACTED], [REDACTED], [REDACTED], [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] at Site 120, and on an as-needed basis for other European facilities, but often found himself being forced in to a technical maintenance role supporting facility reactors across the region, frequently sidetracking his research.
Following the desire of his wife to relocate closer to her family to support their end-of-life care, Bazyli relocated to Site 65 in Saskatchewan, Canada; where he resumed his research activities. After several months of work within the Site 65 Research Department, Bazyli transferred to the Site 65 ISD department, in an effort to help improve degraded site conditions that were being experienced at the time. Originally intended as a temporary effort, Bazyli found himself overwhelmingly embraced by the Internal Security department and Site Administration, who repeatedly approached him with requests to apply for promotions within the department. Bazyli was quickly promoted to Investigator soon after joining the department, which was soon followed by a unanimously-approved promotion to Inspector. In his first several months with the department, Bazyli was exposed to almost every aspect of work within Internal Security; working on investigations, prosecutions, and educational trainings and onboardings nearly every week. After 6 months of working within the department, and following a few unexpected deaths, he found himself entering the senior leadership ranks of the department as the Commissioner of Investigations, eventually transferring to the role of Attorney General of Site 65, where he serves today.
