Character name(s): Ryan Stekken
Civilian name: Ryan Steken
What server are you applying for? (SCP-RP UK or SCP-RP USA): SCP-RP USA
Do you have a mic?: Yes.
List all whitelisted, MTF, or CI roles that you hold or have held:
Exec. Researcher, Ethics Committee Assistant (holding both)
2x E-11 CSG, DEA Senior Agent (held both)

Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?:
None.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?:
Research has been my focus for the last two months since I’ve become an Executive Researcher. I have doing it with all the roleplay around it and would like to improve it wherever I can. With the position of Director of Research, I would be able to help Researcher in new ways, have other ways of getting into roleplay and do Research with more opportunities. The same goes for working with other departments which is desperately needed especially when dealing with misbehaving research personnel or dangerous tests. Changes are something that I strongly look forward as some of our policies that we have at the moment are either unnecessary or even contradictive. Policy changes should be aimed to clear up any possible misunderstandings. The main focus would be to bring more roleplay-based testing back to the Research Department as many tests consist of a sampling or not really unique tests.

What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
As an Executive Researcher, I always try to help new Researchers into their roles, how to do a proper test, what a document should look like and improve their own research. I have gotten much experience through being an Executive Researcher and an E-11 CSG when it comes to testing, the roleplay and where the rules lie. The roleplay of Research is one of its best aspects and one that I'm always looking forward to. While I get no satisfaction from punishing people, I still deal with any issues caused by Researchers whenever I take any notice and know how to properly deal with it in a fair matter. Constructive criticism is something I look out for and take into consideration when making any changes as I believe that no one can know everything, and others should not be ignored. A middle ground that benefits everybody should always be sought after when possible.

What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
  • Managing and representing the Research Department
  • Make changes to department policies or documentations
  • Handling applications for Exec. Researcher
  • Encourage and create roleplay inside the Research Department and with others
  • Help Jr Personnel as well as Exec. Researchers with their issues
  • Being the contact person for Site Administration and Site Command for anything regarding research
  • Approve or deny research studies
Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:

[Audio Transcript - Excerpt 1]
Ryan:
Well, today we had something unusual coming in. Not because the item is unusual, but the delivery apparently came from a subsidiary of ours in South-East Asia. Didn’t know we had any there.

[Voice inaudible]

Ryan:
Hmm… That’s odd. I might have to ask some higher-ups if they know anything about that.

[Audio Transcript – Excerpt 2]
Researcher:
Hey Ryan, could we show you something for a second?

Ryan:
Is it urgent?

Researcher:
Kind of, yeah. It is regarding that shipment we got from South-East Asia.

Ryan:
Okay. Sure, I can take a look.

Researcher:
We ran some tests and the results are…confusing to say the least.

Ryan:
Why? What do you mean?

Researcher:
We couln't quite figer out its physical properties yet.

Ryan:
Why? It's not that hard.

Researcher:
We know ... but this, whatever it might be, is different.”

[News]
News anchor:
Reports of a chemical spill in [REDACTED] reach us right now. Chemicals like hydrogen cyanide and mercury compounds are leaking into the surrounding areas. Several areas are to be evacuated until all decontamination efforts has been completed.”

[Post-incident interview - 2]
???:
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us to help us deal with this on-going situation?

Ryan:
We got a strange delivery before it happened. It said that it came from one of our subsidiaries in South-East Asia which nobody knew that it even existed. When I walked by one of our laboratories, I saw two of my colleagues opening the box with a solid, red substance inside.”

???:
Interesting. What exact experiments did you run on it?

Ryan:
I was only there for a determination of its melting point which we could not get.

???:
And when did you hear about any unusual reports?

Ryan:
"Like around one hour after I left. Someone reported a warm tingling sensation which many chemicals here could cause. After that someone could not move. The sight was just … no.

???:
I see. And how did you avoid experiencing your fellow colleagues’ fates?

Ryan:
One of my colleagues tried to help and went into one of the laboratories. He touched them everywhere and told me he felt warm suddenly. I just had the feeling I needed to leave and close whatever door is lying between me and those that are … you know.

???:
I have got an offer for you. We are always in need for people that are able to make the right decisions based on little to no facts.

Ryan:
Do I really have a choice?

???:
You always have a choice. And I think you made yours.”

Ryan:
Who are you?

???:
Let’s just say we are your new employers. Welcome to the Foundation.

[Excerpt from INCIDENT-REPORT-25/A]
[…] resembling red crystals that appear to possess the same chemical structure as water. Multiple researchers working on the samples reported a warm tingling sensation at first. This developed into frost forming on the affected skin which spread until it affected the entire body, turning it into another red crystal. […] Public news was given a cover story of a chemical spill that leaked into the area with the research facility being rendered defunct due to very high levels of hydrogen cyanide and mercury. […]
