What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
This suggestion seeks to add paper aeroplanes to VComputers, as a SWEP and accompanying Entity (or the other way around?) -A player holding a printed document would be able to turn it into a paper aeroplane (Provided that it is only one page long); They are alike their regular document counterparts save for:
- Being unable to be pinned to corkboards (and stored in cabinets? Unsure.)
- That they can be thrown. Ideally, thrown paper aeroplanes would glide for a fair distance before falling (Dependant on SWEP implementation, should at least be throwable, really).
Janitors should be given a SWEP (or having one of their existing SWEPs altered) for the purpose of damaging and destroying paper aeroplanes (since Janitors are obviously not allowed weapons). Additionally, consider adding Satchels to the Janitor's loadout to give them another option than destroying the paper aeroplanes (Although they can just get them from dispensers - Not picky about this one).
For moderation purposes, maybe consider attaching some form of floating worldspace UI element to paper aeroplanes in flight that shows the SteamID tied to the document? To increase ease of moderating undesired usage of them.
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Multiple VComputers suggestions have been made in the past, including suggestions of additions to VComputers, but I highly doubt that anyone has asked to add paper aeroplanes.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
- Potentially more RP for ISD & Janitors - Foundation personnel messing around and throwing paper aeroplanes may be considered unprofessional and a potential FLC (UK)/CoC (US) violation, giving more RP for ISD with added variety in arrests and related situations. Janitors may be called on to clean up paper aeroplane messes (especially by individuals actively being arrested). Additionally, by encouraging them to hold onto and report loose documents they find this adds a potential avenue of RP between them and the relevant departments.
- A potentially more enjoyable way for CI to introduce infobreach documents into D-Block - Rather than just unceremoniously dropping the doc over the railing.
- It could be something fun & enjoyable for players to do.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- Underutilisation.
- May exacerbate already-extant abuse of VComputers documents.
- May have undesired physics interactions, potential lag considerations, etc.
- Dev work & time, may be too much to reasonably warrant implementation. (I have however heard in the past that VComputers is apparently not a core addon? So more devs are able to work on it than if it was? Uncertain if this still holds true)
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Let's just get this out of the way - Yes, the first thing I would do if this was added, is throw a paper aeroplane made from a fake 096 pic. Okay, great. Anyway; Not everything added has to have a strictly practical or professional usage. I think we could benefit from having more ways to mess around. This could also have uses in things like Events, regimental trainings or even just fun RP situations (Imagine CI throwing paper aeroplanes into Compound. That could result in some interesting RP for DEA/Nu7 dependant on how said situation is approached and plays out.).
A lot of the server's... I guess, lack of depth? That I can perceive? Comes from... Just how serious everything has to be all the time. Like yes, you want to aim for a specific environment - However you need to take into account how exactly that shapes the server environment and what ramifications come from trying to shape the server in this way. There's already so many aspects of the server that make it feel like a second job, things like regimental or departmental commitments that players need to tend to if they wish to retain their position, etc. It just... Feels so dull, so constrained.
Paper aeroplanes... Admittedly won't fix that. They may even make things worse. But they're a fun, small thing that aren't a particularly ambitious thing - And maybe whatever may be learned from implementing them could be used elsewhere.
Sometimes we set out to do this big, grand lofty thing that ultimately flops for one reason or another - Maybe what we need is just... Little doses of added fun, here and there. Like drops of colour on a grey background.
You feel me?
