What happened to Education over Punishment?

The reason for your one day ban wasn't because you left, it's because you didn't rejoin. If you rejoined within like 15 minutes, they would've let this slide. That's pretty generous in my opinion.

Don't be afraid to face IRP punishment though, it's more of a learning tool rather than a punishment. You'd get fired if something much worse occurred.

Well yeah, fair enough. I just havent seen a verbal warning in a little while, especially for the new guys.
Consider confirmation bias as you see a big green text popup when someone is warned but its much less obvious when they're given a verbal as they're simply returned

We give out verbals and are fair, to the point people called us "too lenient", we recently tightened up basic policies causing issues amongst the playerbase.

The issue with education is a lot of people take the piss out of the staff for it, following the whole
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Cases are dealt with on a case-by-case system, and its up to the staff member to ascertain the validity of a punishment, and following that if there is disagreement, it either goes as a complaint or ban appeal.

Well heck I certainly try to give people verbals where I think I can, though both a little and a lot goes into that decision- or most staff decisions really. Are they being genuine, are they being kind, do they have a history, is what they did forgivable, and does it seem like they will actually learn/avoid reoffending based on their behavior?

These are answered pretty quickly and it's not like you have to hit all marks for me personally to avoid giving a punishment but many times folks don't. I recently gave a new fellow a warning because what they did was rather malicious and while I can understand not knowing SCP-RP rules right off the bat, I feel like you can know to be kind to others or at least how to handle your issues in a calm manner. I think he might avoid doing the same thing going forward but he also might not and I'm uncertain of that based on how he acted so a small warn is enough.

Other times it's just funny, someone messed up and they apologized about it and we live and laugh and learn and move on. I don't typically laugh with the racists or the MRDMers though. Many types of people out there, many different goals. Always case by case basis, not every person is the same or needs to be handled the same way.

For every ban/warn you see in chat, there has been likely 10 verbals from that moderator alone for other people.
We all try our best to educate and teach if someone genuinely doesn't know the rules, but attitude is everything also. We're not going to punish people for genuine mistakes. Just be honest with your staff member. We were all new players once too - we've all made mistakes and we are there to help you understand how to avoid them in the future, but also to ensure those that intentionally break the rules and have that malicious attitude are punished accordingly so not to disrupt YOUR gameplay.
