What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
- This suggestion is to add a toggle, perhaps in the C menu or F4 menu, which would allow players to choose to toggle on and off the names and the HP that appear above someone's head. These would be individual choices and would stay toggled on at first (meaning all new players do see the names above peoples heads).

The name section could also be separated in 3 separate toggles for "See full name", "See no name", "See only prefix" (such as ranks / roles).

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
- Perhaps the full removal has been, I've never seen a toggle suggestion though.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Choice - As it is a choice to trigger it on and off, it will not negatively affect anyone as they can always decide to use it / not use it. It also allows a person to only activate it during specific moments, such as high quality RP or events (if they so choose).
  • Immersion Increasing - It allows a person to activate it to increase their immersion if they want. I've had many events personally that feel less immersive due to the works above peoples heads and have also had the opposite feeling much more immersive when GMs use certain techniques to hide their names during events.
  • Community Support - Many people have wanted the addition of hidden names for a while now and this change can do that and please them whilst not actually negatively affecting anything.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- Common "development time", otherwise because it is a toggle it won't really have any other negatives. I guess people with it toggled off may have a harder time reporting people, but the toggle should allow them to flick it on quickly to get a name.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Read the above.

It is a toggle based change that allows individual players to choose which part of the RP / immersion breaking world they're able to see. It would be set at visible at first to allow newer players not to get lost and stuck at the lack of ability to see names but people who want it could turn it on or off at a whim.

The fact that it can be customised to suit your own needs is so great, I as a immersion lover would love this addition because it stops you passively metagaming names and it just adds more reason to speak to people about who they are it would be great RP

Love the idea, but one issue I see, which IIRC is (or at least something like this is) the major reason why this sort of thing has been denied in the past:

Scenario: A player has chosen to turn off names & HP. They then call a sit on someone who was breaking a rule. They clip it for staff to see and while the clip does prove rulebreak, names aren't shown. Other player in the sit claims that the clip doesn't prove it was them, which would be correct as there is no identifying information to work with.

How do you handle the sit from that point forward?

Either just accept that those clips become unusable or just have staff confirm via logs for certain things (e.g. the person in the clip shoots known player ABC at XYZ time - staff can check who did that in logs to confirm their identity).

What if it's something that isn't logged, but a pertinent thing that requires some form of action, such as a failraid or failbreach (008 in particular)
