Re-add this npc back onto the usa server. also i guess re-add the ration machine on the uk server

- dev time

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted?:
because cool. but like i just don't like the aspect of shorting my steam name. to fit in your brand name for small perks. like i get it not required i just felt its always dumb server do this. And realistically yall are already the top scp server so is the name still needed.

The civilnetworks.net in the Steam name doesn't even work anyway. I tried it back when I joined the server and it didn't take.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

...Yes, I realise I should have opened a bug report ticket about it, but like TBH... This is just a plainly better idea. From a reach perspective, the civilnetworks.net in the steam name thing rings as very early 2010s, out-of-touch, and doesn't really have any noticeable pulling power. When was the last time you looked at your friends Steam names and decided to check out a community or server because they had a link in their Steam name? If anything these days, if someone has a link in their Steam name, you're more likely to think that they've been hacked, instead. I would argue that it's not a functioning form of advertisement and at worst, may inadvertently convey negative implications about the community overall. I highly doubt that this is desired by the network.

I think it's past time to change it to something else that has far more positive ramifications for the server and community overall. The Discord idea is definitely better for encouraging engagement and would make it easier for newer players to integrate into the server as progressing anywhere pretty much requires you join the Discord for rank requests anyway (see regiments), but TBH anything would be better than the name thing.

This isn't as simple as y'all are making out.

We would have to create a fingerprinting system with a bot to then check if you actually are in the discord, so it would require multiple points of development one for the bot, networking and then in-game

Furthermore Emilia you are wrong on your point, it actually does drive traffic as its an advertisement, I know people who check out communities from steam names, its not like its a CSGO casino, which at that point you may be right.

I wasnt aware it wasnt on the server, I will make sure its re-added and I think the ration machine still exists on the UK its just inside the staff section for GENSEC to work with d-class and act as a reward mechanism (to my knowledge) but if its not being used, I am sure SL wouldn't mind putting it back in D-Block.

That's unfortunate. What about the portal? Since it's required for TS access in the first place (and progressing anywhere in the server invariably has you interact with the TS to some degree), would it not be possible to check the portal based on the player's SteamID (which the portal requires) and then see if Discord is linked? Is there no way to get those two systems to interact?

🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'm being an old grouch about it, then. I'll concede that much - As I said, anything would probably be better than the name thing (although that's my opinion). If there's other options, please consider investigating their feasibility and their benefit to the network. I guess I'm out of touch, but personally, myself and the people I know (to my knowledge) generally don't look at Steam friends lists for much other than playing games with friends, especially not for finding new things they'd like to try. Maybe I guess it's something the youths do, then? IDK

My thoughts on this at the moment are that it might be worth doing some kind of survey on it in some capacity? Is this worth a #problem-solving thread? I don't know if everything's that concrete, that there's no room for anything to change there, but my intuition is that if that was the case, this thread would have been closed already.
