What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

This suggestion removes the recent addition of the VChat OOC message limit. This is to either alter it to allow far more messages, or to outright remove the limit.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

No.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

Removing a feature which impacts the community in a negative manner

Maintaining the OOC community interaction within the server

Removing the monetization of speaking on a server... people play for enjoyment?

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

Returning use of OOC to previous levels (which arguably is not poor if regulated properly, in following metagaming, mixing etc rules)

Lost revenue on...speaking

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

Honestly, it is difficult to articulate why this should be accepted, mainly because I do not believe it particularly needs to be explained. First and foremost people play this server for enjoyment, and despite it being a roleplay server, much enjoyment from players comes from the strong and welcoming community, which is fostered through features such as OOC chat. Limiting this for all players, and only offering increases through the purchase of VIP packages is incredibly disappointing to see.

OOC can be problematic, but this is the age old argument of "bad apples". The fact is, OOC is near objectively used for it's proper use, and OOC being used for unacceptable reasons is easily dealt with, through moderation of individuals which break these expectations to make proper use of OOC. The solution is not to take away from players.

Changes should be made with an utilitarian objective, to benefit the most amount of players, in this case, this does the complete opposite. As such, this suggestion should be accepted, and the OOC chat limit should be either changed, or outright removed.

This is one of those changes that genuinely feels like it was implemented without much thought being put into the actual impact it would have on the community.

OOC has always been a major part of the server's community interaction. Putting an arbitrary limit on it and then effectively monetizing additional communication through VIP is a pretty poor direction to take. People shouldn't have to pay for the privilege of being able to communicate with the community at a reasonable level.

I also don't really understand the logic of punishing the entire playerbase because some individuals misuse OOC. If someone is breaking metagaming, mixing, or general OOC rules, moderate those individuals. Don't restrict everyone else who is using the system properly.

Honestly, @Johnson J. Marauder should have thought this one through a bit more before pushing it. The change doesn't seem to solve a problem so much as create a new one for everyone who actually uses OOC normally.

Strong +Support from me. The limit should either be substantially increased or removed entirely.

There isn't 24/7 roleplay and having a chat in OOC is nice and what helps form friendships and familiarity in the server.

I've seen this feature be a part of other RP servers and it's dreadful. I think I can see where this is coming from regarding tryout ooc messages but this can just be cracked down on.

If someone doesn't want OOC they can turn it off for themselves. They can even ask how to in OOC.

To clarify briefly, this is part of efforts to reduce new players or alt accounts spamming things in ooc especially when there aren't staff about. Despite all the filters they're far from perfect and this is something in the meantime. What this is not, is an attempt to get people to buy VIP for OOC chat limit, no one in their right mind is going to buy VIP for ooc messages, rather its to restrict donators less, as they are far less likely to be in either of the aforementioned categories of players trying to be malicious

I’m going to be completely honest, wouldn’t this just mean they send a message 15 times then get banned? Similar to what currently happens? I play nearly exclusively low-pop USA server, when sometimes there is not staff, and I can attest this is generally not a problem. Once again, it is a situation of bad apples, solutions to the spamming can be found in plenty of other ways rather than hurting the community, in an attempt to protect the community.

Making staff more enticing to join, adding extra rewards to staff for being on during low-pop may be solutions here. I accept this is easier said than done, but that does not change that I, and I’m sure many other can agree this is not the way to fix it.

If this is the reason then in my opinion it should be level locked as opposed to donator rank locked so they have to play to use OOC as freely as others and could give staff time to work out what sort of player they are

Specifying that this is my opinion and is no way stating fact, simply viewing words through my understanding and creating an opinion.

Regular players really don't have much reason to be sending 15 messages per 30 minutes, if you want a conversation go to Mess hall that's what its there for. However, the problem this is trying to fix is something I have never seen, and just seems like justification to incentivize buying VIP. I know I wouldn't feel inclined to buy VIP if I was a regular player just to send messages in OOC. Just seems like a capitalist fix to a non-problem.

As a proud combat medic veteran (5,000+ hours, over 20 confirmed kills, only 8 of them friendly) I can say for sure that this change will destroy my experience on the server. The staff didn't think about the OOC RP that happens when I stand above medbay for 8 hours a day waiting for escaped d-class and CI raids. I could easily clear 100+ messages per hour cluttering the entire left side of people's screen with "/ooc meow im a cute kitty when is the next E-11 tryout?" I will be taking my business to SCP: Secret Laboratory, where I can blast my soundboard in spectator chat and ensure that my gaming experience will remain untaxed by big civil.

Why not limit it based on time played on server instead of punishing all players? Seems like a better fix to me that way new players can still speak in OOC but they just have restrictions and then once they play for a while after then they can speak in OOC freely.

Why not just have an chat cooldown for OOC, like 1 message every x seconds instead? Discord and a lot of platforms have this feature.

Just to inform you I was not involved in the decision making process for this at all!

Could just have people afking a bunch and then whats a fair amount of playtime comes into the discussion. I think people overestimate how much they type in OOC, I'd be very suprised if people go over 45 messages in half an hour without spamming

I don't know if there's a dev reason for this, however from a speculative standpoint I believe its easier to tie stuff to usergroups and also sometimes the server has issues with levels loading

I'm not against making adjustments or anything but there needs to be some sort of baseline to start with and alter the amount from somewhere, I really think people are overestimating how many OOC messages you'd send in half an hour. I can understand the negative reception from an initial glance, but I've played many other servers that do something similar and unless you reckon you're sending more than 1 OOC message every couple minutes consistenly you won't ever really meet the threshold. For help issues there's a tickets both in game and discord they can make.
