What does this suggestion change/add/remove: The intent is to provide a percentage chance of acquiring a persistent food poisoning bacterial infection when consuming a food item that is not intended to be consumed, such as raw food.
This would require a new illness, with mechanics similar to how our current illness mechanics work. Instead of occurring randomly, it would have a percentage chance (such as 20% chance) of being applied to the player upon consumption of a raw or otherwise improperly edible food item; such as raw eggs, raw chicken, a bottle of cooking oil, etc. This would be in addition to the damage effect already applied upon consumption of the item. The player would take slow damage over time (just like what happens with radiation poisoning from the reactor), and the player would occasionally make a groaning or vomiting sound. The effect would persist until the player consumes Erythromycin to cure the infection.
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?: I have not found any prior suggestions for this game mechanic.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2): This would help discourage players from consuming raw food back-to-back, which is an ongoing thing that we see people do. It would add a consequence to their action, based on percentage chance, and would then require them to go visit a doctor, which adds some medical role play to the medical department.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion: The audio effects may get on people's nerves, so it would be best to limit how often the sounds play, similar to what we already do for our various illnesses.
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted: Overall, this gives the raw food mechanic a bit more use, and encourages people to cook the raw food instead of just eating it directly as a meme.
