Content Suggestion Apply The Surface SCP Queue System To Filled Non-Surface SCP Slots, Too

Content Suggestions will be reviewed by Content Team weekly, please allow time as not everything can be reviewed at once.

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

Implement an expansion of, or system similar to surface SCP queueing - But for other jobs, to be used for when a job's slots are full. Which specific jobs this may apply to would generally be up to the discretion of CT, but I am primarily proposing this for regular on-site SCPs that the player trying to get on the job otherwise meets the flag-on criteria for (i.e. The queueing system checks to see if the player meets level/VIP requirements and/or has the appropriate whitelist for said job - Given that the existing surface SCP queue system already does this to an extent (both surface SCPs require SCP levels), that part shouldn't be as much of an issue).

Existing rules surrounding the (ab)use of of the surface SCP queueing system may need to be adjusted to account for more jobs being able to be queued for (i.e. Expanding the existing rules of accepting surface queue pop during an RP situation to get out of RP, especially something like being arrested/jailed by ISD, to appropriately include all queueing where that applies)

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
I vaguely recall a previous suggestion along these lines some few years ago or so? If memory serves, that prior suggestion was denied because it wasn't seen as needed and it would also be fiddly to implement. I don't particularly dispute these if I am remembering correctly, but I'd like to re-open the discussion for reasons I elaborate on in the last section.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

  • + Improved QoL for anyone wanting to get onto a specific SCP that happens to be full at the time

  • + Potential increase in player retention

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

  • - Dev time

  • - Staff time adjusting the relevant rules to account for abuse of the feature

  • - Abuse

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

Aside from the really helpful QoL for SCP players like myself, from what I understand, a lot of the RP loops involving SCPs have been struggling a bit, lately. I imagine there is a significant contingent of the playerbase who likes to play some specific SCPs, but if the slots in question are full, don't really want to stick around doing other things they aren't interested in if they can't easily check or know whether what they want is available (Having to open the F4/Tab menu and scroll down, etc). If there was queueing for those jobs ala the surface queue, they could be incentivised to stick around and engage in RP until their desired job is available to flag onto.

In that case, I think this would have an overall positive effect on server health, even if minor. I understand that the better longer term solution to the current lack of interest in SCP roleplay is to resolve the current issues negatively impacting SCP roleplay and SCP gameplay in general - This solution isn't necessarily incompatible with that idea, nor is it a replacement for it, but it could potentially serve as useful mitigation of the current situation with SCPs while longer term solutions are being developed, and when those solutions are in place, would still remain as exceptionally useful QoL for SCP players.

As for whatever other jobs the queue system could apply to...? Honestly, I can't really think of any off the top of my head that would make any real sense for it. The best candidates I have are Tech Experts, Sr. Researcher, GSD Officer, Assistants, CI DC, CI TB, CI Juggernaut, etc. The more lucrative, limited-slot jobs that people want to be on, to play them.

The only absolute exception to this I would say, would have to be D-Class Type Blue. I don't think that under any circumstances should it be queueable, which I feel is in the spirit of that job's implementation as a kind of 'flag on lottery', even though if unintuitive on the surface.

Regardless, this suggestion is primarily about trying to get the queue system for normal SCPs. Anything else is a bonus. 🤷‍♀️
