What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
The suggestion changes the way how Cartographer plays and interacts with their team and the enemy team. Making him more viable ONLY during dimensional travel and giving his presence and importance during dimensional travel have a much bigger impact on RP / PVP. I've done some brainstorming on this as Cartographer, at this current moment. The Cartographer job is extremely situational and just isn't useful in any circumstance due to the multiple nerfs with dimensions. This is mainly talking from a gameplay perspective and my personal experiences with both RP and PVP as a whole.

Now going into the main points of the suggestion:
I feel like Cartographers, in every GOI (F, CI, GOC) are individuals who have / had relentlessly studied dimensional travel in order to find exploits in these dimensions and use said exploits for the benefit of their group. If I remember correctly from their descriptions they are well funded and trusted greatly by their respected higher-ups in the chain of command. I would imagine this would allow them to push the boundaries of traveling through the dimension. This can be for the pursuit of study and for or making travel more convenient and easy for their team.

I'd like to propose we give Cartographer a set amount of reality bending abilities ONLY in the dimension. Working as a "granting" system similar to how 22415-2 can grant people temp access. The ability is only given to the Cartographer when they enter the dimension; and removing the reality bending ability when leaving the dimension. They would share the same energy pool (50) as a Foundation Thaumotologist (Ofcourse these abilities can be tweaked around for balancing but these will mainly be example abilities I have thought up. The energy pool could also be changed depending on the ability costs) the main aim was to give Cartographers a sense of urgency and how they should carefully conserve and evaluate how they want to use up their energy before the reality collapses for them.

Tether: Gives the selected people / person an extra 30 seconds in the dimension. (This can just be a set duration, or set as a percentage) / (You cannot use this ability on yourself, so you have to make careful choices of who you want to keep in the dimension longer before you're forced out yourself)

Banish: Removes selected people / person from the dimension you are currently in. (They will also Banish themself so they would have to make this a final decision / careful who they select)

Resistor: Grants the selected people / person temporary resistance from being killed by the Tesla while in dimension (This can be complete immunity for a set time or it shocks them to the point of 1 hp similar to immortal SCPs then removes the protection effect from the player).

Motion Blur: Removes the silhouette of the person who is in the dimension (Cannot be seen by others outside of dimension) / (Before disappearing, they will emit a glow before disappearing to signal that they have been affected by the ability) / (Only lasts for around 10 seconds)


Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

I have not seen anything similar like this before. However if their already is a similar one. The overall reason for the suggestion was to completely overhaul how Cartographer plays. I really do think the job needs a different approach in how it's played.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

New gameplay loop:
Giving Cartographer such sudden changes would allow players of every major group access to new ways of exploring / exploiting the dimension either purely from an RP perspective or a PVP perspective.

New and Unique interactions:
More potentially funny and odd scenarios could take place from a new major change on the job. Could be from using the wrong ability and getting someone in a rough scenario.

More responsibilities on the job:
Gives the job alot more interaction and importance during certain scenario's. Their decisions in the dimension would now play a huge part in the outcome of an RP or a PVP scenario if player greatly / poorly.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

Development time:
Like everything else, something like this would require alot of work of implementing another reality bending system catered to Cartographers and how the abilities would interact with players and other people observing said abilities. They would also how to tweak how the reality would last longer without the assistance of a 22415 instance keeping it stable.

Balancing:
With everything I have mentioned, I can imagine that can negatively impact RP / PVP. Depending on what abilities are added onto the job I understand the suggestion I am making is far-fetched and a long shot. But I feel the job needs some deserved changes. It could end up having alot of bugs and unintended loopholes in how the reality bending is added and removed from the job.

Bad intentions from players on the job:
There comes a risk of people mis-using their abilities in the dimension for other people, causing arguments and falling out in the given GOI.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

I feel we need to revive Cartographer activity and give them much more of an impact during RP / PVP in the dimension. This suggestion is something I've put alot of thought into after playing Cartographer jobs in every Major GOI. Adding onto this It would be appreciated if feedback / constructive criticism is given. I want to give Cartographers more freedom on how they interact with the dimension with other people present.
 
Very cool idea and it has merit considering cartography is a bit shit atm, but I have an ALTERNATE idea- what if instead of reality bending (since that would be a bit strange, and takes away from the uniqueness of thaum) these abilities could be granted based on upgrades, similar to the weapon and hacking upgrades on surface...

These could be found a number of ways, perhaps one being dimensional travel (traveling enough time or finding nodes or warps in reality in the dimension that would strengthen it) OR found the good old fashioned way by completing surface missions (terminal hack, briefcase, etc.) where the cartographer can get a upgrade to their dimension anchor.

These could be what you suggested, i was thinking one could speed up the time it takes to actually create the portal since it currently takes like 20 seconds too long to be tactical mid raid.
