Content Suggestion Change Thaumatologist Job

Content Suggestions will be reviewed by Content Team weekly, please allow time as not everything can be reviewed at once.
What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

Replace Thaumatologist from Research department and transition to site staff as a support role for combatives.
Make them a combative with a very light kit, SMG and sidearm, keep the 25 armor to balance and not just be a TB.
Remove the disguise ability and replace it with materialization once again but if possible tweak the outputs to only give up to an LMG, no Auger or Energy Weapons.
Rename the role to Thaumaturgist

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Not to my knowledge no.

Possible Positives of the suggestion:
A useful role in supporting fellow combatives in breaches or CI raids, makes the role actually useful other than just being a VIP researcher with abilities you cant utilize due to being a non combative, and constantly driven out of any SCP breaches due to such, even when you have nothing but good intentions to assist others.

A more unique playstyle rather than just going guns blazing as you can cast abilities onto others and in the down time for recharging you can utilize your guns. You'd have to pick and choose your targets to best handle a given situation.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
Some potential for minges but still happens with the current thaumatologist role as with anything else.
During reality bender breaches its main ability will be rendered inoperable and thus just being a normal combative with 75 less armor. So more planning & communication is needed.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
I believe it should be accepted due to the positives stated above and because the role of thaumatologist is not used for research purposes, its main focus is thaumaturgy, no abilities can be used for any meaningful testing, so being apart of the research department is just wasted potential for the role.

Thaumatologist has no need to be combative, it is a research job.

Did you even read the suggestion, I said to remove it from research as it holds no value for research purposes, thaumaturges are used in SCP lore on field ops so its not unrealistic to utilize them.
As the role stands, nobody uses it for research purposes as there are none, SCP Protection is the only thing that has even a hint of value, but all it is, is just observing if D-Class die to 682 and any other SCPs. Thats not research thats sending D-Class to their death with no expected outcome.

It is quite literally just a VIP senior researcher that does no testing with their abilities.

I believe the value and usefulness would be the RP creation that can come from testing - especially tests with the reality bending swep or the general thaumaturgic RP.

I have seen a decent quantity of tests with these in mind, and with the new abilities there is even new possibility for testing and RP relating to them (especially because some of them are shared with the CI TB, allowing Foundation to IC learn their abilities).

In my opinion, this is the same value any research role gets - to create RP - and I think the thaumatologist should stay in this role.

You can do a lot of weird things with the powers that Thauma gets
You can turn people permanently (or at least until the die) into trees pigeons exct
You can make a thrown Nitro-glycerine be able to be grav gunned

Thauma just got updated to give him less mingy powers as having combative powers on a noncombative job is
well a very easy way to have a sit made against you

at the end of the day all of RSDs Gameplay loop comes from test , not from helping GSD kill unruly dclass

if you don't know how or what to Test either
1 Harrass your nearest RSD CL4 to give you ideas
2 Throw Dclass at the problem

Maybe instead of downright removing them, add a separate role with thaum powers that is there PURELY to be a support class for combatives. Give them the weakest pistol in the game and allow them to have specific powers that only exist to give buffs and guns to combatives.

I could see the vision for a separate, Support Combative reality bender on the foundations side. But removing Thaumatologist from research goes too far. Some know how to play the role and do it well, letting their abilities enhance tests. Good thaumatologists shouldn't be punished because others are bad at being a researcher.

This is completely untrue, Some thaumatologists do a fantastic job testing, and play their role well using their abilities. Some do not, but features shouldn't be stripped or denied because of others abusing or misusing the role.

Then alternatively instead of my first thought for the change. Make Thaumologist allowed to carry small arms and assist with combative situations but not outright be shooting unless theres no options left.
I don't like to be barred from assisting units during a breach and CI raid due to ISD telling me to leave.
On US they can if they get a weapons permit for self defense.
Though in general ISD is meant to evacuate non-combatives from combat areas. It's part of their policy and that's a In-Game policy.
I wouldn't mind having help from thaums during combat if they don't get in the way.
