What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Adds the ability to close your eyes or put your hand over your eyes. Basically a self inflicted blindfold that can be enabled and disabled at will.

This can help prevent people from seeing 096 as staring at the ground is both weird, unrealistic and sometimes doesn't even work. The ability to just close your eyes would be really useless if you didn't have scrambles and 096 was actively near you during a breach. 096 is really buggy, looking down sometimes just doesn't work, so this is the next best thing.

It can also add a lot to general RP. I can't think of any exactly but it could add to games. Like heads down thumbs up, red light green light and a ton more. It'd be really fun to use it in RP and active combat.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
I don't believe so. I couldn't find any.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
On-the-go way to combat 096 without looking silly staring at the ground and having to crouch walk.
Adds to potential RP, for example with SCP-173
Adds to party games and possibly even events.
Alternative to scrambles.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
Indirect SCP-096 nerf
Dev time
Could be buggy on implementation.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
In my opinion, I think it's genuinely balanced. It's a way too counter 096 but with the big downside of being blind. You're faster since you don't need to crouch walk but you can't see, so you need to rely on your map knowledge and game sense.

It's not that it doesn't work, it's that people just straight up don't understand how it works. The implementation is probably the best that could reasonably done in the Source engine for a multiplayer framework? It's an interacting dilemma because the nature of it being buggy is both not inaccurate, but also somewhat unfair, given that it's based on a poor understanding of the implementation. It's more that it's just not implemented accurately - And that's probably the best it can get without causing issues. IMO, just learn the mechanic. To my understanding, the grand total of people of people that understand 096's mechanic amounts to myself, and maybe Zen. You need to look away, not down.

Anyway, this idea is good. This isn't a blink mechanic suggestion, as blink mechanics have been denied in the past for making it too unfair for 173 as 173 would have to rely on everyone in the room blinking at once - This is more of a "reverse blinking" mechanic than anything.

My only concern is that this would exacerbate the whole "wtf 096 I wasn't looking, why'd you kill me" complaint that people raise at least once every 096 breach after inadvertently seeing the pic without their knowledge, which I point out in the linked thread - But that's a nothingburger. If people aren't willing to understand, they aren't willing to understand. No-one can do anything about that. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe there's a potential concern with people misusing it to get say, 173 to kill people it normally wouldn't be able to kill if you were looking? Anyway,

I don't fully know how it works, but I do know that you can trigger 096 through closed doors and some walls (probably through displacements or something)

+/-

I truly think this is an interesting and innovating mechanic which can lead to interesting interactions with 173, but I think it would bring an unfair advantage agaisnt 096. Aside from that I think this is a really cool idea.
