Content Suggestion Coded Fridges

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
A type of Chemical Fridge that has a code that one would need to put in when trying to access the chemicals.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
This has not been suggested here before as far as I know.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
This would limit people stealing Chemicals that are more expensive and you can put the fridge in a place that is accessible to all people without needing to put them in a room with a code. Most applicable to the Department of Medicine and RSD.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
This could cut out people that need to get the chemical but do not have the code, maybe because they are not yet known.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Nobody likes when minges steal chemicals for no rp reason, but just to drink 2L of cures, this change could limit that for chemicals that put a substantial dent into the Department's funding, and would limit the amount of refunds SL has to give.

Well, I can mostly talk about Medbay, where the fridges already are only accessible to medical personnel Cl2+, so adding a code to it would mean that only Medical personnel can access it with the code. That would be just a added level of security, so ppl don't just do the test and then steal the fridge as a Doctor. Kinda like RCPT has a coded fridge area, but that would not be possible for Medical.

ah so you don't mean removing the restrictions already in place, that makes more sense. In that case +Support I guess

You're just gonna be people getting interrogated for fridge codes and/or leaks, then you're back to square one until the code is changed, kinda like door codes. IIRC, fridge access can be restricted to specific jobs by SA+ and most are, generally regimental fridges. I imagine what's gonna end up happening is that you'll want Medical fridge access restricted to Medical jobs.

We've had past suggestions asking for increased access to fridge logs with the intent of expediting moderation of chem theft:

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Add log acess to chemical Fridges For Regimental Commanding Officers. (this can be set by SL on what each MTF/GOI Wants it to be set to E.G LT+ Or MAJ+).
for viewing what has been taken out and by who and what is added by who because at this current moment in time it is entirley possible for someone to just siphon out like 100ml of idk anima a day from like CI R&D and not be caught due to them being able to do it at like 4am. This Option would be added As a ui or on personell tablet for Commisoned officer+ without a way to wipe the log...

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
[Gives a Roleplay aspect to finding out who takes a lot of chems out and in, specificly in medical where most of the infection curing chemicals get stolen and not replaced. It would allow for instance a consultant to see "Ah Jerry Bacon has repeatedly taken out chemicals out of the locker and not replaced them...

Unless logs were improved any time in the past couple years, I'm pretty sure they're still janky and back when I was a CPT and chem theft would occur, it was common that by the time staff showed up and checked logs, they couldn't figure out who took the chems because of a technical issue with the logs themselves. If this is still the case, it's the biggest issue with fridges and massively discourages people from contributing chems to a department/regiment if it means they'll likely just be stolen with the culprit having a decent chance of not being caught.

IMO even for the time being, the best solution here is still to expand the accessible information about who took what chem from a fridge to trusted people in the community so that they can show it to Staff, but given that they're firm on the position that purely a Staff matter, chem theft is going to remain an extant issue until logging is improved. Chems are cooked, cuh.

Unless you're in UK CI. From every angle I've looked at it, CI basically have chem storage solved. You should ask UK CI leadership about how they handle the chem fridges to see if you can learn anything useful from their practices. In my experience, UK GOC have also had minimal problems with their fridges, but I feel that's more to do with their higher barrier to entry than anything.

I think if this becomes a worry then you disallow it, which I would say to do from the start. Imo coded fridges would be best to allow a wider group of people to have access without giving it to everyone on a single job.
