Why are you applying for Director of Research?
-
I am applying for the position of Department director to further develop my leadership skills in the department, and take a more hands-on role within RSD. I have had a very fun time seeing the creative ideas that people are able to come up with, and I wish to further cement my place in the department and show that I have dedication to creating good role-play for all the different departments while making the department accepting and enjoyable to all, new and returning faces alike. The other executives have all been extremely helpful in teaching me how to do my work in the department, and I owe them for helping build my confidence to this point, as well as all the other department directors for helping give me insight on how I perform. I am aware this is my first senior CL4 role application, but I feel the most confident for applying to this due to my passion for creating role-play through creative ideas and application of them.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
-
I have had always had a fairly creative mind to try and make ideas that members of the department can engage with and have fun doing so, and I always try to encourage others to do the same, pushing them to improve and learn from their shortcoming or projects they bring, while praising the good work that they do. I have helped take a leading role in a few events, keeping control and keeping participants organised during them. I feel confident that when need be I can reign in bad actors, and punish them accordingly. I am aware that I can sometimes be slow to learn, so I am always open to criticism from my peers and friends, as it is invaluable for me to properly learn and improve. I strive to maintain an open and friendly demeanour, that people can feel confident and happy to talk to.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
-
As the director of the research department, I would be responsible for:
Management of executives and staff:
As the director of research, part of my duties would be to ensure that executive researchers have been maintaining proper conduct, meeting their requirements, and performing their duties to a satisfying standard. This also includes making sure that they are well informed on the duties they hold, as well as conducting interviews to potentially recruit new executive researchers, and onboarding those who do successfully pass their interviews.
Reviewing and updating RSD policies:
In collaboration with Site Administration, I will be responsible for ensuring that documentation regarding RSD policies both in-game and externally are up-to-date, regularly reviewing said documents to check for any changes that might be necessary to prevent confusion or abuse of possible loop-holes, missed rules, and regulations regarding testing and sampling. As stated previously, this will be done in collaboration with Site administration through regular meetings and reviews.
Attending meetings with Site Administration and other department leaders:
To ensure that there is good communication between all departments, Senior CL4 meetings are held to inform eachother of any concerns they have regarding the health of RP in their respective department, as well as communicating any ideas to improve RP or the enjoyment of their department. Part of my responsibility as a department director is to ensure that I attend these meetings when they are held, to both show that I am taking my role seriously, and so I can keep up to date with concerns and ideas.
Encouraging roleplay in departments:
Possibly in collaboration with Game masters, it is vital that as part of my responsibilites I try to encourage roleplay in departments wherever possible, as research is heavily apart of creating roleplay for the different departments. As a department director specifically, I will be responsible for ensuring that all staff have their fair chance to engage in roleplay that is enjoyable and accessible to them, making sure that not all RP scenarios are kept to CL3/4 personnel only. It is VITAL that you can get new people involved and hooked on roleplay that is presented, as this encourages ideas and growth within all departments. In my eyes, I care about getting as many people involved as I can, when I can.
Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:
-
Connor Miller is a simple man. Born in london, raised in a upper-class family, went to university, gained a masters in entomology, it seemed like he was set in life.
....
But curiosity knawed at him. Curiosity was a sickness, a cancer that gnawed at his mind day and night. He spent much of his early adulthood performing his own experiments, the occasional vivisection, biological studies mostly. He did not possess the same empathy as others, although he did really care for those close to him. After a few years of studying his work in London, he grew sick of it.
Sick of the noise.
Sick of the people.
Sick of the limitations.
He moved to Pinewood shortly after leaving London, hearing of the various paranormal activites that occured there, it was too tempting. His curiosity brewed from cinders; soon becoming a reckless wildfire.
Soon after settling down, he applied for work at the nearby military base, hoping it would ground him, and force him to focus. Soon after acceptance however, he quickly came to realise it was not a regular site. Not a regular base.
And their research department was hiring.
( So far, I've had connor involved in a lot of tests regarding biological affairs, and I have been responsible for trying to create roleplay in departments, such as having meetings with different department leaders and bringing some roleplay to departments that fit situations better than research, like anomalous medical situations being brought to medical, etc. I wish to continue doing this, as it is benficial for both research, and the other departments involved. Additionally, I have tried to create more situations that are viable for ISD and ethics to get involved in, as it opens more roleplay scenarios for people to engage with from both sides.)
