What Ethics Committee role are you applying for, and why:
I am applying the role of ECM (Ethics Committee Member) as i've always wanted to help drive RP within the server and help ensure that everyone has a fun experience whether its through engaging RP, to ensuring people have something to do. This could be achieved by observing tests conducted by RSD that have questionable ethical implications, ensuring ISD and Omega-1 work together to catch FLC violators and face justice, to meetings with the O5 Council to help relieve tensions when they start flaring up on site to avoid a war as i believe diplomacy should always be the first course of action to avoid unnecessary bloodshed.

I would also like to start taking a more active role with regards to tribunals in order to help facilitate RP around serious violations similar to the Foundation Vs RAISA, or Foundation Vs Charles Whitmee tribunals that took place within the past couple of months and see ECM as the next logical step after Director of Internal Security as both entities work closely together to enforce the FLC and ensure that the foundation maintains its humanity instead of slipping into a similar role as the CI.

What makes you the best candidate for the Ethics Committee?:
I have worked closely with the Committee for a while thanks to my role within ISD to help enforce the FLC as well working closely with other departments to help ensure they are treated fairly by ISD. I believe if i were to get the position of ECM i could help various departments more effectively by ensuring both sides are heard and any agreements or disagreements are mediated fairly between the two parties.

On top of this, i strive to maintain a philosophy of hearing both sides of an argument to get a clearer picture and then use what i can from both sides to find a fairer compromise between people rather than just jumping straight to the "I trust this person over you more, so tough" mentality. With this in mind, i understand that the EC are to remain indifferent to the various departments within the foundation, which makes them the best for dealing with more sensitive situations that may spill over into conflict within the site.

In terms of things i have done in my time as Internal Security Director that would make me a good candidate, I have worked closely with other departments as the director in charge of Inter-Departmental Liasons as well as Investigations and Operations to work on agreements with various departments to help build better relations with ISD and other parties. As well as working on a plan to bring ISD to a more lore accurate version of itself where ISD infiltrate other departments and act as members of those departments while answering to ISD leadership in order to have ISD act as a sort of deep cover within the foundation to gather evidence on POI's in order to build cases for an arrest or a potential tribunal depending on the situation.

I was also involved with the ISD vs E-11 incident revolving around their Custos Armorum sub regiment where ISD infiltrated E-11 with the goal of being recruited into CA to monitor their activites which stemmed from a botched amnestication attempt on a nearly promoted commissioner by the E-11 LTCOM.

Another event happened last night where ISD were called as a DEA agent who had been inside the CI base undercover was acting erratically. ISD CL4 and DEA CL4 responded where we discovered he had been injected with 096 samples and was also administered Class-F with the sole purpose of breaching 096. E-11 were able to detain the individual as they attempted to enter 096's containment chamber and move him to medbay where ISD were the first to arrive. Upon questioning the individual myself and the DEA Dpt. Manager Mac as well as Field Agent deemed him to be compromised where he was swiftly terminated (The agent chose to treat this as a PK)

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?:
The Ethics Committee are responsible for overseeing sitewide behaviour through O1 or themselves depending on the personnel involved, as well as ensuring that the foundation maintains professional and ethical standards. They also work closely with ISD to ensure the FLC is up to date and that it is being followed by site personnel by utilizing O-1 to assist ISD during arrests to monitoring personnel of particular interest, while also holding ISD to a higher standard as they are the enforcers of the FLC via ensuring ISD is maintained and pruning Directors that neglect their duties to "Advising" directors to remove problematic elements within ISD should they prove troublesome. The EC are to also be indifferent to the outcomes of various situations unless during a serious situation like the CA case and are more concerned with ensuring people are remaining ethical and following the FLC or standard operating procedures. They also ensure that the welfare of all foundation staff are upheld, all the way down to D-Class personnel.

The Ethics Committee are also responsible for ensuring tribunals are kept professional alongside acting as the judge in more serious cases where an ECA may not be sufficient to handle the situation. They are also in control of Omega-1 who act as their personal guards during walks around the site, often covertly, as well as ensuring O-1 has tasks to do, whether its obtaining information and surveillance on people of interest, to assassination orders in the most dire of situations.

The Ethics committee also act as the opposite side of the coin to the council in RP as well, acting as a counterbalance to the council's power to ensure that the council sticks to the foundations mission statement at all times whether through meetings with the council to discuss problem elements that both sides are interested in and the best course of action, to vetoing council plans if they pose a risk to the foundation from an ethical standpoint.

What are the responsibilities of the Ethics Committee out of RP (e.g. what applications do they handle?):

The ethics committee responsibilities outside of RP consist of reviewing and denying/accepting applications for the the Directors of Internal Security as well as any ECA applications that are submitted as well as liaising with O-1 and deciding on the COM and LTCOM (if there is no COM) to ensure the smooth operation and efficiency of the MTF unit.

They will also liaise with the council on various operations that both parties have a vested interest in, as well to look over proposals from the council to decide whether they would fall short on an ethical ground or breach the mission statement.

Please give some lore about your Ethics Committee character and what storylines they would be involved in:
Ehrendil is an Amnesiac who can't remember his time before Site-65, except in small dreams that he often dismisses as his mind playing tricks on him. He is fiercely loyal to the Foundation, and has a strong sense of justice, but understands that often a gentler approach to certain situations is required to de-escalate situations. Due to his Amnesia induced state he would attempt to try and learn of his past and the reason for his amnestication, which could lead to some RP surrounding his resentment of the previous O5 council with hopes of building a better relations with the current council should his attempts to unlock his memories prove successful.

Definitely up for the job, add some colour its kinda hard to read and if you want you should make a cool little file for your character it really adds a lot.

Although you are 100% deserving of the role both from an OOC and IC perspective, this has to be among one of the most lazy, uninteresting and cliche character biographies I have ever seen. Most GOC CPLs have more developed and interesting lore than this.

When you make character lore, you must repeatedly ask yourself “Will I enjoy roleplaying this character, and will it help people feel engaged with the ongoing RP when I do,” because when making character lore you are essentially making the groundwork for HOW to roleplay your character properly.
And then you must also consider other, more backstory related things especially when it comes to characters like this, for example; “Ehrendil is an amnesiac” is an ok groundwork, but a bit cliche. But my main issue with this line is that it reveals nothing about your characters backstory, and it seems no one will. Why is Ehrendil an amnesiac? Was he serving as an ECM beforehand? Why wasn’t he briefed on his previous memories? Was it caused by amnestics? If yes, what would Class-X amnestics do to affect your character and those around him? (obviously the last question is more hypothetical and is dependant on the situation.) Now, all of these points go down the drain if this RP was done beforehand, however it’s not for me to know.

Another question that comes to mind is: If your character is an amnesiac, what makes him so loyal to the SCP Foundation? If he was brainwashed, then why does he get visions of his past life? Why does he actively seek out the reason for his amnestification (which is somewhat implied)?

If the answer to this is something along the lines of “it’s up to the reader’s interpretation,” may I recommend that you read other CL5 character lore from previous applications. This is the groundwork you use to RP your character, and I don’t see many people enjoying interacting with someone like your character.

Another point that came to mind is: Unless the amnestification was done in RP before this application, you would need to collaborate with O5 OOCly to tell them whenever your character discovers they were amnesticated by O5 instead of just saying “You erased all my memories!” and O5 going: “This never happened.”

Anyway, this just goes to show how autistic I am…

You can do better than this application, I know you can.

You were a primary pick for Director of ISD due to the maturity and roleplay capabilities you possessed and this application is letting you down massively. It is not displaying nor even highlighting the qualities you hold in the position you have currently.

The lore is non-existent and absolutely needs a rewrite. I'll give you some helpful links to help understand the Committee a bit better:

Ethics Orientation: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/ethics-committee-orientation

Class-D Housing: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/ethics-committee-class-d-housing-regulations

Human Anomalies: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/ethics-guide

Also do note, whilst on the server there is this constant agitation with the Overseer Council vs Ethics Committee, you do need to understand 95% of the time they work together like clockwork for the greater good of the Foundation. It is only when an Overseer strays from the mission statement or crosses that line the Committee deem unacceptable then you are faced with the core component of Tanhony's Proposal which the server has embedded itself in mostly.

Tanhony's Proposal: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/tanhony-s-proposal

You can of course for the benefit of a healthier roleplay environment stray a little from the proposal and do more non-violent means of holding an Overseer accountable.

I won't leave any form of support but just this wall of text to hopefully guide you a bit better.

All the best!

I have seen you do very well in ISD but this application is quite poor. And I know everyone gets this but I do think going for SA first would be a better idea to understand how everything works.
You are wrong on this one. ISD Director is the perfect pivot into the Ethics Committee. SA is not required if there is a heavy amount of ISD Experience.

With regards to the lore, i'm currently working on a personnel file and a lore document to accompany that currently. I'm aiming to have it finished within the next couple of days.

I think you've missed the purpose of the Ethics Committee. Your application doesn't demonstrate a sound understanding of how it works and why it works the way it does. You should read up on the resources provided by Broda to expand your knowledge, and then rework your application.

One of the main gripes is that you've written it from a single facility point of view. Ethics Members are members of Foundation Command and are responsible for the entire organisation, not a specific facility. Whilst they're often based out of individual facilities, their command is not exclusive to that facility.

Your wording in other sections demonstrates my prior points.. e.g "Responsible for updating the FLC".. Ethics made the FLC and are entirely responsible for the content in it and it's enforcement. They hold a much greater role.

Another one which felt like a knife in the heart considering you used to be O1 was describing O1's purpose, to which you stated that they "guard Ethics during walks around the site". You know better than that because I know that I drilled the purpose of O1 into everyone at the time. O1 are a tool for the Committee- a weapon. Yes..they (stupidly) walk around the site with them, although their primary role is to do the Committee's bidding in any way the Committee sees fit. Undying loyalty, especially in light of executing any directive relating to Primary Action and the Committees true purpose.
