It is that time of the year again for the obligatory "Nu-7 COM asking for Nu-7 updates." But I think these are sorely needed, not just for the betterment of the regiment, but also to pull Surface combat out of the normal play cycle of: "Get Nu-7 CSG, Special Agent, CI-G, or GOC rank whatever and 1 tap people across the map."
What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Here are my modifications for Current Nu-7 classes first:
Nu-7 Specialist Loadout change
LR300 > ACR (to encourage medium range combat. LR300 has no stopping power compared to the new HK417)
+Scranton Reality Anchor (this would act as a hard counter to TB, but would fit into the meta of Specialist being a technical role)
Nu-7 Autorifleman Loadout change
Mk8 > M60 (Mk8 is good for fighting SCPs, but the M60 is more geared towards PVP combat and is good in CQC while having a self-balance to suffer on surface)
+100 Armor Boost
+100 Health Boost
-10% Movement Speed (the pairing of these personal stats is to turn the autorifleman into a juggernaut light. Still not as good as the CI/GOC jugg, but it's to give Nu-7 a solid heavy class that is worth playing)
Here is my modifications to the current Nu-7 Class Lineup
Nu-7 Rifleman Loadout (New Class) (Class Limit: 4) (Rank Limit: SPC+) (License Required: Sniper)
(Some sort of DMR-Style Weaponry [Semi-Automatic, smaller magazine, higher damage comparative to HK417]) (This is to encourage a playstyle that is centered around medium/long range combat with the self-balance of short range drawbacks)
MP443 (Standard Nu-7 Sidearm)
The addition of this class is not to act as a buff to the standard operative, but rather a sidegrade to the MK417. While the MK417 is good for close range, it suffers at long range. In lore, a regiment like Nu-7 would have an answer for the weapon's shortcomings by having a longer range operative that can lay down quick fire, but not so quick as to throw off their aim.
Here is the radical surface changes.
Class Removals:
Nu-7 Marksman
CI Marksman
GOC Marksman
Class Primary Removal
DEA Special Agent
DEA Agency Manager
DEA Agency Director
Weapon Removed: DSR
The play cycle of ranking up so that you can play marksman and go on a killing spree is something that has been plaguing surface combat for nearly a year now. The fact that the flow of surface combat is in the hands of a handful of people makes every other class irrelevant on surface 75% of the time. Not only are marksman classes ridiculously powerful, it is also ridiculously easy for anyone to pick up a marksman rifle and kill people.
Headshots are not required. Just one tap anywhere on the target and you win.
Certainly this is realistic, but snipers do not sponsor an active combat playstyle as all sides will generally hang back until their snipers are in position and let them wipe. If one person is able to singlehandedly destroy an attack with only a handful of shots and no game sense, there is a glaring issue.
A replacement for the loss of these snipers is the reintroduction of DMR-style weaponry into new or existing classes. Semi-Automatic weaponry that have a higher damage output than automatic weaponry, but at a slower, semi-automatic pace and suffering at close range. It gives all sides that ability to do well at long range if you can hit your shots consistently and position well, but not immediately eviscerate at the first shot.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
Listed above
Possible Negatives of the suggestion (At least 2):
-The Updated Nu-7 Autorifleman has a realistic threat to upend the balance of power in CQC combat between GOC/Foundation and CI/Foundation
-The Removal of Marksman roles may drastically change combat for the worse as the surface combat is relatively unchanged for months.
Based on the Positive & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted?:
Surface combat has been in a funk for months with relatively no updates to Nu-7 or addressing the core issues of surface combat. Snipers dominate. Combat flow should not be in the hands of a small portion of surface pvpers. Victory should be a reward for skillful play, not single shots. DMR weapons will fill that long range niche while not being impossible to fight against as a CI-A/PVT.
Of course, as the Nu-7 COM I have to look at when the last time Nu-7 had a major overhaul/update. From my understanding, it has been some time. The swap from the GRY SBR to the HK417 is a long-overdue change (thank you Derek) but something with more substance would be helpful to regenerate some interest in a mostly unchanged regiment on both the UK and US sides. A class addition would be a welcome change as well as updating the loadouts of some of our least-played classes to give the regiment a well-deserved versatility that its lore suggests.
