Content Suggestion Headcams QoL

Content Suggestions will be reviewed by Content Team weekly, please allow time as not everything can be reviewed at once.

What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

This suggestion asks for several QoL adjustments to be made to headcams, firstly and most importantly:

A likely known issue regarding facewear on models obscuring headcams - When viewing the headcam of a lot of combative jobs, there's things like masks and goggles and such that can massively cover the view of their headcam - Some of the typical culprits include MTF jobs, SCU/SRU & similarly with GOI combative jobs, too (all Jugg headcams are basically unusable, for example). If you're able to, move the near clipping plane forward on headcam cameras (away from the head) so that it culls those parts of the model.

Additionally, revise headcam access permissions - As things are atm, anyone below CL3 can only see people that manually placed headcams on themselves, such as D-Class for a test. Ideally each job and/or clearance should relevantly affect who's headcams they could see, i.e.
For Foundation clearances:
CL1/2 -> Only D-Class and other personnel that put on a headcam via the one dispensed from the dispensers for RP and testing
CL3 -> Lower ranking people in their department and depending on the job other CL3s
CL4 -> Everyone within their own department/regiment and CL3s and below related to them, including Site-staff
CL5 -> Everyone who has a headcam, bar other CL5s and the opposite side of AO

For Foundation jobs:
ECA -> Gets to see headcam of up to Inspector/Commissioner in ISD, able to see all CL3 and below personnel's headcams, Headcams of other ECAs
OSA -> Same as ECA bar ISD, where they only see up to Agents/Investigators
AO -> Same as their assistant however COs can see up to Jr CL4 of any DPT and such
Any other job with a specific purpose/many links in foundation should be same where they get access to headcams relevant to their job
Any general job such as GSD Captain+ or like Consultants would follow the same structure as the clearances, however small exceptions could be made such as GSD Sergeants can see a Captain's headcam, etc

Additionally, added another menu to the tablet where players can change who can see their own cam with certain 'modes of access' outside of normal access permissions, other than just being able to toggle it on/off. This specific function would obviously only be for like say, MTF COs, SA, FCOM, CL4s etc. With an exception for ISD, so for example:
ISD -> Investigation (Only their superiors, ethics and CL5s can see their headcams)
E11 -> Supervision (When doing an 008 test or something of similar clearance for only other E11, CL4s and CL5s to look at their headcams)
RSD -> Same thing as E11 with relevant alterations

Ideally give all combatives an open setting with relation to them being able to panic button - As they panic button to get people to check their headcam and potentially see location and what's happening (i.e. breach, CI raid, etc.), but currently there are a significant number of circumstances where this would be ineffective as the responding personnel wouldn't have access to their headcam. It should go without saying that there should be certain considerations where this setting should turn itself off on death, i.e. if you consider this for AO roles, they don't want to panic in response to encountering CI, die, then uncleared people are tuning into their headcam on respawn.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

There have been suggestions in the past surrounding the use of and who should spawn with headcams, but nothing about QoL like this.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):

  • + Headcams & tablets become far more usable, better tools in both combat & RP, making them a more valuable part of server content

  • + Headcams make more sense

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

  • + Dev time

  • + Abuse

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

😭 It's been like this for years now, cuh. We've had some really cool tablet updates, but the biggest reason to use them still has the same issues it had 3 years ago. Can we please get headcam updates & fxies? Thanks

- Support to the suggested structuring of access
I feel that some of the suggested structuring is over the top, for instance ECA shouldn't have access to ISD commissioner, and most jobs shouldn't be able to willy nilly check the headcams of others in their department unless they're CL4, because they shouldn't be keeping tabs on them unless they are in a leadership position

That makes sense - This is only a guideline to give an idea of what the thought process should be going into changing access permissions. Are you at least interested in any access changes and/or other access-related QoL changes along the same vein?

Honestly I wouldn't be opposed to some access permissions, I just feel like it'd be hard to keep consistent across both servers to properly necessitate RP. Also I don't have any clue what jobs spawn with a headcam. I think it'd be neat if it were similar to the whitelist menu where Site Command could change what jobs could see what and so on. This could better facilitate RP on each server individually, however at the cost of extra dev time. Head cams have always been heavily under-utilized, and with that I think they need a proper way to remove & strip them as well, because in kidnap RP they always hit you with the 'tell people they can't access your headcam because we took it from you', which just turns into rulesplay, and all my homies hate rulesplay
