What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
This suggestion would add spots on the surface lakes like you see with the janitor dirt spots where the ice is "cracked". In these cracked spots, players can utilize a fishing rod bought from an NPC placed in front of the MC&D house on ice lake (or perhaps the gas station) to break through these cracks and play a minigame to earn fish, similar to pic attached below.

It can be an incremental game where if you hit within the win spot, you can take the fish given to you or you can play a harder version that's faster or has a thinner win spot to try to get a better fish. The fish should only take up one slot in your inventory so that when you run out of slots, it's easier for the game to determine when it has to hardstop you until you get rid of them, sell them or store them.

You can then sell these fish for a good amount of money (prices need to be discussed) to chef NPCs or use them in food recipes.

I reckon we have up to 5 levels of increasing difficulty with a wide range of fish, perhaps even an SCP-527 easter egg gun attachment. Just like with cooking levels, we can also have a fishing level that would increase how much the fish are worth so it would be a task that you'd have to hone to start getting the lvl30s.

If we want to spice it up, we can also add weights and lengths of the fish caught that would add a positive or negative modifier to the prices based on what the set average is for those fish.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Yes, and it was due to development limitations at the time but now that more time has passed I believe things are different and we can finally implement this. We have the janitor dirt framework to bounce off of, now we just need to add all the new content to complement it.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
New minigames are always fun, adds new cooking recipes, adds a new way for new players to make money and possibly just all players depending on how lucrative it is, adds an activity that can be done with other players under friendly circumstances, ultimately opens up an admittedly small yet new avenue for RP.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
Always dev time.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
The positives that I have outlined with bias outweigh the negatives that I have undersold with bias. Ultimately I think this can only be a net positive for the server and that this is the kind of change that people are looking to be added to enrich surface RP. If we do this suggestion right then we can meet that goal.

When I first laid eyes upon the Mesh Editor, I was fully committed then and there to call it the magnum opus of server development. A gift to gamemasters so monumental it would render all previous building techniques obsolete. I had my basement prepared for hibernation. I was ready to weep at its unveiling. Then I saw this post by @Harold Hawks and I truly understood what this server could become.

Fishing. Where do I even begin. Such a concept surpasses all others by leaps and bounds and leaves me hungry for a future in which I might achieve communion between man and ice. Dare I say that we are not yet cultured enough to appreciate such a gift to our community. I am now hopeful that I might one day stand at the water's edge in crisp winter air, rod in hand, waiting for the opportunity to experience the transcendent bliss of reeling in a virtual fish. Simply marvelous.

The Mesh Editor has never made me feel this way. Nothing has ever made me feel this way. I am forever changed. I think about my library of advanced dupes and gmobjectives I once coveted and I feel nothing. A hollow echo where passion once lived. Instead I have a vision. A lone individual on a frozen lake, old rickety rod in hand, taking in the natural beauty of our Canadian wilds. That person could be me. It could be you.

Content team, you hold in your hands the sole decision standing between me and true happiness. I have been patient. I have been reasonable. All I ask, with whatever goodwill I have left to spend, is that you accept this suggestion and bless us with this fishing minigame. To the developers who might one day bring it to life; I would give you everything I have left. My undying gratitude.
