Former Identity: Dr. Valk Sully
Current Position: Senior Researcher, Department of Cosmological Anomalies
Security Clearance: Level 3
Status: Active
There are countless researchers at the SCP Foundation whose names often get lost in a sea of paperwork, transfers, incidents, and the passage of time. But Dr. Valk Sully was never one to fade into the background.
Before the incident that ultimately wiped him from official records, Sully was hailed as one of the brightest minds in astrophysics and extraspatial theory within the Foundation. He dedicated himself almost entirely to Site-█’s Cosmological Research Department before being transferred to site 65, focusing on anomalous celestial phenomena, deep-space transmissions, and the intriguing possibility of intelligent structures lurking beyond our observable reality.
His colleagues often described him as brilliant, perpetually awake, and increasingly fixated on his work. As time went on, his research began to drift away from traditional science and veer into the realm of philosophy.
The research logs found in his office were filled with repeated mentions of ideas like:
“living constellations” “sentient gravity” “the observer behind the stars” “light that thinks”
Many personnel dismissed these notes as mere stress-induced paranoia, a side effect of prolonged exposure to cognitohazardous astronomical material. Sadly, Dr. Sully's theories were eventually validated.
In late ██, the Foundation's listening arrays, which were monitoring deep-space anomalies, picked up a repeating signal from an uncharted area of space. Archived records indicate that this transmission came from a spot where no celestial body should have been present. The signal repeated every eleven hours. Within the transmission were complex mathematical patterns that contemporary computational models struggled to decipher. Audio analysis uncovered hidden frequencies that could induce shared hallucinations among the research staff. Several personnel who were exposed to the signal reported recurring visions of a massive white triangular structure floating in a pitch-black starfield. Dr. Sully quickly became obsessed with the transmission.
Going against the advice of several senior staff members, he suggested directly syncing with the signal using an experimental astral resonance chamber that was meant for communicating with extradimensional beings. He managed to get the green light after arguing that the signal was “the single greatest discovery in human history."
”The experiment kicked off on December 9th, ██. It lasted for eleven minutes. At ██AM, Site-█ experienced a complete systems failure centered around the research chamber. Witnesses reported that the containment room seemed to be “larger on the inside,” with some even claiming the walls vanished for a moment, revealing what looked like open space filled with stars. The security footage recovered from that night is mostly corrupted. The last clear frame shows Dr. Sully looking up while talking to something that isn’t visible on camera. Then, in an instant, he vanished. No remains were found. Dr. Valk Sully was officially declared dead three months later.
The first signs of his return were subtle at first. Researchers began noticing stars reflected on surfaces where there was no light. Hallways in Site-█ briefly displayed night skies overhead, even though they were several floors underground. Observatory equipment would activate on its own during complete power outages. Then the dreams started. Staff throughout the research wing reported having the same visions of a gigantic eye watching Earth from somewhere beyond our visible universe.
On March 10th, ██, security cameras captured an unidentified humanoid figure appearing inside Observatory Wing C. The figure was dressed in a dark Foundation research uniform adorned with faint glowing stars scattered across the chest and stomach, resembling constellations woven right into the fabric. Behind it, a massive halo of concentric rings spun, emitting low levels of stellar radiation. But the figure’s head was missing. Instead of a human face, there floated a rotating white triangle with a single luminous eye at its center with a black star behind it.
The entity approached the responding security personnel with a calm demeanor, introducing itself as: “Luminary Polaris.” Later biometric analysis confirmed a striking genetic match with Dr. Valk Sully. Current medical evaluations categorize Luminary Polaris as biologically indeterminate. Internal scans show no typical human anatomy beneath the uniform. Aside from the regular organs you may find in a normal human body (heart, bones, lungs), imaging devices reveal shifting energy densities that resemble deep-space radiation and stellar formation activity throughout the entitie's body.
Attempts to physically touch the rotating halo structure have consistently failed, as matter seems to distort several centimeters before contact is made.
Despite this transformation, Polaris continues to work within the Foundation as a senior researcher. He seldom talks about what happened during the Polaris Incident. When asked directly, his responses tend to be vague and often leave an unsettling feeling. In one interview, a researcher inquired if he still considered himself human. Polaris reportedly fell silent for nearly thirty seconds before responding: “Humanity is a shape. I still remember wearing it. ”
Interactions with Polaris are generally calm, but prolonged exposure has led to some unusual side effects, including: Recurring dreams of space - Auditory hallucinations that sound like radio transmissions - Temporary sensations of weightlessness - Unexplained knowledge of unfamiliar constellations - Intense existential anxiety followed by emotional numbness.
So far, none of these effects have been deemed dangerous. Within the Research Department, opinions on Polaris are split. Some researchers see him as a tragic outcome of reckless experimentation, a human being partially overtaken by something vast and unfathomable. Others believe Dr. Valk Sully is already gone, and that Luminary Polaris is simply whatever returned, carrying his memories. Polaris himself has never clarified this issue.
He continues his work quietly, often spending hours alone in SCP 8837’s containment chamber, the only thing ressembling actual space in the site, gazing into the vastness of the fake stars within the chamber.
A number of people have said they've seen the stars subtly change their positions whenever he does this. Unfortunately, no investigation into these claims has ever come up with a satisfying explanation. Or, to put it another way: No explanation that anyone was willing to put on record.
