What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
So far 4v4 wars have been a nice addition, but they've also raised some problems when participation is low. It's often the case that not every online player can actually commit to staying online for a war, or people are still logging off at the end of the day. With 8v8 losing 2 players didn't matter too much, but with 4v4 it absolutely cripples one side. This is especially true when one team has far more than 4 players, we've seen some wars become 1v9 and a total steamroll because of it.
To solve this I'd propose that, when less than 8 players are present on one side, both teams are polled on whether to move to pre-war. Each team needs at least 4 'yes' votes or we get the usual stalemate. This should help to confirm that there are actually going to be 4 players participating per team.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
- Fewer wars with no real opposition, which tended to completely mess up the territory map.
- Confidence that a sensible number of users can actually play in a war.
- Avoids triggering war when someone only logs in briefly to build a FOB or something.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- Fewer wars overall.
- "Democratic" approach to war might be a little less RP-friendly.
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Poor participation risks giving low player-count wars a bad reputation. We don't want people to feel they have to disconnect just to avoid triggering a war that they can't take part in.
