Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
There have been suggestions in the past to change how E&TS works and functions. However, my suggestion focuses on:
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
Improved onboarding for new E&TS players through popups, a quiz for Tech Expert, and in-game policy docs.
Increased roleplay depth and realism within E&TS.
Encourages communication and shared knowledge via Discord channels and in-character meetings, helping new and experienced players alike.
Clarifies in-character policies related to clearance levels and movement, reducing confusion and misplays.
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
Slightly increases the barrier to entry for some players, especially those wanting to play Tech Expert (due to the quiz).
Relies on player and Site Leadership initiative to participate in meetings and utilize the support resources effectively
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
While it introduces a small barrier for one CL2 role, the overall changes are minimal, focused, and highly beneficial. They offer new players the tools and guidance they need to succeed in E&TS, while giving experienced players better structure and support. These changes encourage higher quality roleplay, improve department cohesion, and reduce IC ambiguity, all without expanding the job roster or requiring major rework. The effort-to-benefit ratio makes this a worthwhile, low-impact improvement to E&TS roleplay.
This suggestion proposes minor changes to the E&TS (Engineering & Technical Services) department, focused on improving clarity, onboarding, and internal cohesion, without adding any CL3 jobs. It includes:
- Janitor (CL1): Add radio to job. Add terminal, printer, corkboard, and cabinets in spawn.
- IT Technician (CL1): Add radio, clipboard to job, and a first-spawn popup with basic rules.
- Engineer (CL1): Add radio, clipboard to job, and a first-spawn popup with basic rules.
- Tech Expert (CL2): Add radio, clipboard, body camera to job, and require completion of an in-game quiz.
- Policy Document: Added to Tech Expert/Engineer/Technician spawn, detailing clearance rules, access requirements, outlining E&TS policies, and policies E&TS staff need to adhere to.
- Site Leadership Meetings: Regular meetings between key E&TS personnel and Site Leadership to discuss on-site issues, department trends, and E&TS-specific concerns.
- Discord Channels: New Site Staff channels for discussion, support, and knowledge sharing.
- Job Credit Adjustment: Allow for more jobs to credit E&TS staff.
- Site Leadership Liaison (Optional): A designated SL member would lightly support E&TS as a side responsibility, helping maintain policy materials and offering occasional guidance, without requiring significant ongoing attention.
