What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
The largest obstacle to RP that I have witnessed is document bureaucracy. I love bureaucracy as much as the next guy, but we must provide a way to speed this up. The most taxing portion of any RP is simply creating document formats. Therefore, we should provide players with the tools to write documents easier.
I suggest, a modular document system allowing for fillable templates to be made easier.
For example, a sampling document template which has boxes/sections already created in which the player only need fill out the sections. For my example, I provide this image from the interwebs on the right. Imagine, selecting the type of data entry section you want to make, with a nice standard format that actually looks like a real document instead of the current buggy vcomputer system. Kind of like how google forms are made, dragging in the correct element, and have a nice format with the SCP logo on the pages, headers/footers possible.
I think this would be a stellar upgrade.
Then, using this modular system, we could have a fillable template system which players could create and pull from, possibly in the SCiPNET. This way document writing is significantly sped up, and can be customized based on whatever the current RSD/Site Admin require for testing documents.
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
vComputers upgrades have always been suggested, but ones specific to the document writing itself are less common.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
+ Lowering the time it takes to get into a test
+ Accessibility of templates and standard formats
+ QoL for vComputers which is very difficult to use currently
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- Development time
- Touching vComputers (the horror)
- Might break old vComputers documents (SCiPNET wipe?)
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Overall, it would create a healthier community because the single largest obstacle to RP is waiting around while some poor guy writes the entire research test.
And with a standard format, document checks by authorizing parties would be sped up because they would know where to look, and be cleaner and easier to read.
By making it modular, future development or changes is also sped up since it would be easily editable.
