What Ethics Committee Role Are You Applying For, and Why?

I am applying for the Ethics Committee Member (ECM) position.

Why is a good question. I feel that I have reached a point where I am not operating at my full potential as an ECA and Medical Consultant. I enjoy the work I currently do, but I believe that becoming an ECM would allow me to take the next step and contribute much more to the server.

Becoming an ECM would give me significantly more opportunities for RP and allow me to make a larger impact on the Foundation. Rather than simply carrying out orders that can eventually become repetitive, I would have the ability to create and oversee RP situations that involve the ECA, ISD, and other departments.

I also believe I have enough experience within the Ethics Committee to understand how the position works and what is expected from someone in that role. I want to take what I have learned as an ECA and use it to create more engaging and meaningful RP for others.

What Makes You the Best Candidate for the Ethics Committee?

I have several reasons why I believe I would be a good candidate for the ECM position.

First, I am very active on ECA. I would honestly say that I main ECA more often than my Medical Consultant position. Because of this, I am regularly available for people who need assistance, have questions, or need guidance regarding Ethics.

I have also gained experience dealing with different departments and different types of situations through my time as an ECA and Medical Consultant. This has taught me how important it is for Ethics to remain approachable while still maintaining authority and professionalism.

If I were given the opportunity to become an ECM, I would also like to increase the amount of RP generated through Ethics. One idea I have is to create approximately one Ethics order per week, assuming the situation allows for it.

Some of the orders currently being given can feel somewhat repetitive or bland. As an ECM, I would like to take ideas from an ECA perspective, make my own adjustments, and turn them into more interesting RP scenarios. My goal would not simply be to make orders for the sake of making orders, but to create situations that give ECA, ISD, and other departments something meaningful to participate in.

Overall, I believe my activity, experience, willingness to create RP, and familiarity with the ECA role would allow me to contribute positively as an ECM.

What Are the Responsibilities of the Ethics Committee in RP?

The Ethics Committee is responsible for enforcing and determining what is and is not considered ethical within the Foundation.

The Committee ensures that Foundation personnel follow proper ethical conduct and that individuals are treated fairly and ethically regardless of their position, rank, authority, or department.

The Code of Ethics stands above personal relationships and authority, meaning that members of the Foundation should be held accountable based on their actions rather than who they are.

The Ethics Committee also serves as an authority that can investigate incidents, review misconduct, provide guidance, and ensure that Foundation operations remain within ethical standards.

What Are the Responsibilities of the Ethics Committee Out of RP?

The Ethics Committee has several responsibilities outside of RP, including overseeing and assisting with various Foundation departments and applications.

Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Director of Medicine
  • Ethics Committee Assistants
  • Director of Internal Affairs, alongside the O5 Council
  • Ensuring departments follow the COE, FOC, and COC
  • Assisting with the MTF O-1 command structure
  • Selecting an O-1 Commander
  • Selecting a Director of ISD
  • Voting on Ethics Committee Assistant and Ethics Committee Member applications
  • Selecting an Omega-1 Commander
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to individuals who request assistance
  • Helping individuals write guides, documents, and other materials
  • Providing honest and constructive advice to members of the Foundation

The Ethics Committee should also act as a source of guidance for the Foundation as a whole. Members should be willing to help others improve rather than simply punish mistakes.

Character Lore & Storylines

Consultant Morningstar's Medical Team was assisting with SCP-9029, an incident in which the ants had effectively declared war on the site.

Morningstar immediately assigned his personnel to assist with the growing number of casualties. He also deployed Combat Medics to support the forces fighting against the ants.

Despite their best efforts, the Medical Team quickly found themselves overwhelmed. The ants continued to attack in wave after wave, even
managing to bite through hazmat suits and leaving personnel severely injured. Medical resources were stretched thin, and there were more casualties than the Medical Team could reasonably handle.

With the site running low on resources, Morningstar and his personnel were forced to focus on stabilizing wounded personnel and getting them back into the fight as quickly as possible. Morningstar's team worked endlessly under extremely difficult conditions, doing everything they could to keep Nu-7 alive while the battle continued around them.

Eventually, the site was saved after a new chemical was developed specifically to combat the ants. Although the immediate crisis was over, the actions of Morningstar and his Medical Team did not go unnoticed.

A few weeks after the incident, Morningstar gained the attention of the Ethics Committee due to his performance during the crisis. He had demonstrated the ability to organize personnel, remain calm under pressure, and make decisions while surrounded by chaos.

He had quickly organized the Medical Team, assigned Combat Medics to assist Nu-7, and coordinated medical treatment despite the limited resources available. More importantly, he had demonstrated leadership when people were actively dying around him.

The Ethics Committee saw these qualities as something that could be valuable beyond the Medical Department. Morningstar was eventually offered a position as an Ethics Committee Assistant.

Over the following months, Morningstar gained the trust of the Committee. One of the most important qualities he demonstrated was his ability to remain impartial when reviewing incidents, even when the individuals involved were people he personally knew.

Rather than allowing friendships or personal feelings to influence his decisions, Morningstar focused on the evidence and circumstances surrounding each situation. He understood that being part of Ethics meant being willing to make difficult decisions, even when those decisions were unpopular.

This became particularly important during a series of internal incidents that required multiple investigations by the Ethics Committee. Morningstar was eventually assigned as the lead investigator for one of these investigations.

Throughout the investigation, Morningstar identified inconsistencies within the reports and testimonies while maintaining a professional attitude. Rather than immediately jumping to conclusions, he focused on gathering information, comparing statements, and determining what had actually occurred.

His performance caught the attention of senior members of the Committee.

Following the investigation, Morningstar's overall performance as an ECA was reviewed. The Committee determined that he had demonstrated the judgment, discretion, professionalism, and leadership expected from a full member of the Ethics Committee.

After serving as an ECA for a considerable period of time, Morningstar was formally promoted to Ethics Committee Member.

The promotion was not viewed as a sudden appointment. Instead, it was considered the natural progression of Morningstar's work within the Committee. His time as an ECA had allowed him to learn the responsibilities of Ethics from the ground up, while his experience during SCP-9029 had demonstrated that he could lead under extreme pressure.

As an ECM, Morningstar would now be expected to take those lessons further — not only enforcing the Foundation's ethical standards, but also helping create RP, mentoring ECA members, investigating incidents, and ensuring that the Ethics Committee remains an active and respected part of the Foundation.

Morningstar, please format your applications. While it's not needed per say FCOM and higher-level leadership roles need to have some level of quality which is lightly reflected in the formatting and content of the application. While I normally would not publicly say this, but you seriously need to take time and effort in going over applications. With that being said I'll be leaving a -Support even though they really don't do anything in terms of effecting the end outcome. Poor writing and quality control leads to poor results in. I believe that in the future you can make yourself into something big in the site if you apply yourself.
