LORE

Name: Nova Ryder
Age: 28
Date of Birth: 1996
Height: 5' 10", 177.8 cm
Birthplace: Wichita, KS

Nova Ryder was born in Wichita, Kansas to Maureen Baker and Abraham Ryder. Not much is known from her younger years as it is relatively uneventful. She was not considered exceptional academically or athletically, but teachers noted her strong observational skills and tendency to analyze people and situations quietly from the background. To most people, Nova was the pinnacle of human normalcy.

This all changed on one fateful day. On the 22nd of April, 2015, a self-help eBook titled Infinite Potential was published onto digital storefronts, rocketing its way up to the #1 place in self-help despite no copies having been sold. This eBook has been identified as the memetic hazard known as
SCP-7625.

SCP-7625's primary effect is a memetic hazard contained within its text, leading readers to become more suggestible and open to external influence. Although this effect is mild, it serves to facilitate further mind-altering effects triggered by the performance of exercises listed within the text.

The following excerpts from SCP-7625 have been screened for memetic hazards, and appropriate countermeasures have been implemented. Reading of the following material is considered safe.

Did you know? Every atom in your body was forged in the heart of a star. You are the child of a million stars, and each of those stars died to create your skin and bone, the water you drink, the food you eat, and the air you breathe. What will you die to create?

Close your eyes and visualize where you stand. Visualize your place on this rock, between the light of a dead past, and the darkness of a future you will never see. You are the darkness between the stars. You are the void between the atoms. You are the silence of eternity.

Be vast.

Be void.

Be eternal.

This memetic hazard had the adverse effect on Nova Ryder. Instead of causing her to withdraw from society entirely and becoming a social outcast, it lit a spark in her soul and the words "Be vast. Be void. Be eternal." resonated within her. She pursued a medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, shifting her focus from standard behavioral therapy toward clinical research and cognitive risk assessment. During her studies, she accrued an interest in medical ethics, helping provide guidance to her fellow classmates during examinations. During clinical rotations, Nova assisted internal affairs in evaluating the conduct of different employees and how they handled treating different patients.

Her recruitment into the foundation occurred on March 2nd, 2022, when a STARDUST event occurred in Newark. Nova Ryder managed to survive, trapped under rubble, clutching her now broken tablet. Scans of the hard drive show no trace of SCP-7625. Nova Ryder was recruited into the foundation due to her knowledge of SCP-7625 and her expertise in behavioral therapy which the foundation believes would be beneficial to personnel on site.

During an SCP-939 breach on Site-65, in her infinite curiosity, Nova took the opportunity to study one of the instances up close, resulting in her arm getting torn clean off. Being too much of a go-getter, she immediately opted for a robotic prosthetic claiming:
"You think I'm going to let one arm stop me from continuing my life's work?!"
