What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
This suggestion makes it so that when a Code is active, there isn't any text at the bottom of the screen showing the active code.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Didn't find anything so probably not.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
Gives a purpose to the signs posted around site.
More immersive, and makes it so I'm not looking at my Hud all the time for what the Code is.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
Inconvenient having to go to a sign every time you want to check the current code, although comms should be able to neglect this.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
I was looking at another suggestion and was like "wow signs are useless" and someone said "wow why don't you make them not useless" and I thought it was a good point so this is where I'm at.
Honestly I just think it gives a purpose to the signs, as currently why do they exist? For CI and GOC to look at? Why would Foundation have signs that only benefit literally everyone but them?

Although this was obvious, honestly. The only other thing I can think of, that I just realised, is that it might be inconvenient for staff to not immediately know what code it is in the context of maybe say, reviewing a clip of a potential rulebreak? Which could be relevant to specific instances in which the active code at the time could potentially contextually justify someone's actions under the rules (For example, RDM). That might be the biggest roadblock with this - The only way I can think to deal with this is to just have a reviewable log of what codes were active when, which to be honest, should be a thing so that people abusing the code system can be caught easier (i.e. Say there's no staff on and someone spams codes, staff comes on and then they'd have a very easy way to confirm this, but this is a somewhat low-likelihood and minimally impactful thing).

This would also mean it wouldn't matter what faction character you flag onto an SCP with - If you flag onto an SCP as Foundation, you can see codes on your HUD, same as any other Foundation job (Which I believe means that this functionality as a whole is based on VWar factions), as opposed to if you flag onto an SCP on a Civ/GOC/CI character, which doesn't. I think that might be another reason why you'd want to remove this, although I'm not sure in what situations that being able to metagame the current active code as an SCP can be beneficial. Maybe if you silent breach? If you're say, 035 and silent breached with a host, trying to sneak around, see a Code 5 called, you'd instantly know that they're onto you, but... In the cases where that helps, you're in the site, where you can hear it being called anyway. So that's not really metagaming because you'd have that information.

There is a surprising amount to consider about this once you start picking apart at it and I'm obviously very curious to see what can be explored here.

It's a great idea, however the server is not based around 100% RP, its, at times split 50/50 for combat and RP. All this would do is allow CI and other groups to take advantage of the incompetence of the larger majority of the server and essentially free roam around the facility.

We already have boards like this, ones for tryouts, and even then they are not utilized, Discord is the benefactor in this relationship because it physically alerts individuals of when things are going on, which is useful for specific events and the majority that focuses on the HUD and nothing else.

If people are playing being incompetent, they should be punished for it instead of being food feed an easy solution.

This has nothing to do with discord. Even if it did, the tryout boards are still useful, and even I used them! Discord to me is just a way to announce it so you can get on the server for it, but the board is for if you're already in game, or want to check the specific times.

I mean that's what I did at least.

I mean firstly, the present state of things hasn't reflected that for quite some time, with the split listing heavily towards combat - And secondly, while the RP/combat balance you mentioned is the general target, the fact that this is not a 100% SeriousRP server, does not in itself justify not making purely RP-oriented changes.

Like I’ve said in other suggestions, what works for one server doesn’t always work for the other. Each server might handle things differently, one could go 50/50, while the other leans more 60/40, but in the end, they’re both dealing with the same issue, the content that drives those numbers.
Honestly, based on similar ideas I’ve seen before, I don’t think this would change much. People are still going to rely on comms to avoid needing to check something in-game, so it kind of defeats the point.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for changes like this, but the bigger issue is that both servers struggle with having consistent RP in the first place. Instead of massive overhauls, smaller RP focused tweaks might be more effective to help with that. Something like a HUD update that only activates when you’re near a sign, with real-time updates, could be a nice way to keep things fresh and make communication feel a bit more tied to the game itself.
