Content Suggestion Replace Chemical Fridges with Shared Chemical Banks

Content Suggestions will be reviewed by Content Team weekly, please allow time as not everything can be reviewed at once.
What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Replace the shared chemical fridges with shared chemical banks, similar to the personal chem banks available via subscription. These would have the same shared access, logs, restrictions, etc. that the current fridges do, but otherwise work like the regular chem bank machines, where you can dispense stored chems into a provided container.

Each individual shared chembank would have its own inventory, similar to the fridges.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Not to my knowledge.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Providing a much more user-friendly experience for retrieving chemicals
    • No more terrible sorting
    • No more random assortments of container types
    • No more having to manually move things between containers because there's two 400ml-full Large Flasks of the same chemical in a nearly full fridge
  • (For devs) Having a shared UI and other elements to maintain, rather than developers having to maintain two entirely separate chem storage systems (plus inventories)
  • (For CN) Letting people see what the chem bank system is like, encouraging them to pay for it for themselves
  • Improvements to chem banks would (often) be available to these shared chem banks, too
  • Less entities used
    • You can use one shared chembank instead of like 3 fridges for departments like RSD and Medical

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
None.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
This would just be better in every regard than the current chemical fridges, which are annoying as hell to use.

Neutral Support
Sounds good initially, but I have some thoughts. Curious to see how you (and content) would work this out.

- A limit would need to be added to the group chembanks.

> This limit should be able to be changed by SL/SSL to simulate giving a regiment/group more fridges.
- Permissions should be customisable.
> Would there be a possibility for a CO Chemvault?
> What about groups like RCPT? If the entirety of research gets one chemvault, how would theirs be split from the rest?
- Placement
> Would this be done like the current chemvaults, accesible from all around, or would this keep the current placement system of fridges, being located in the locations of said group/regiment?
- Flasks and Beakers
> Alot of Beakers, Large Beakers and flasks get stored in fridges, this being both useful for non chemists and to save money, as a large beaker already costs up to 200$ in a chemvault. How are these supposed to be stored now?

I'd be a fan of just redesigning the fridge to have UI similar to chem vaults which would solve the first three positives. I don't think shared chem vaults for departments is a great idea. For example, in US O1 i believe only COs and Venom Corps have access to chems (unless I am mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong). Forcing people to share the chems with the whole regiment/department is just not the way.

It's crazy how that isn't what I'm suggesting.

I'm suggesting that SL be able to place down a shared chem vault, with a permissions system similar to the fridges, where anyone with permission to access the vault be able to add or remove from it. The idea is basically "what if the fridges were actually usable". The chem vault dispensing and insertion system just works, while the fridges require you to manually organise everything, its sorting doesn't make any sense, you can't search, you don't know which of the 3 Medical fridges the chems you're looking for are in.

SL would be able to place these, like the fridges, set permissions, like the fridges, and set a limit on how much they can store if that's necessary (imo just don't limit it - it's not needed). Dispensing, searching, sorting, insertion, etc. would all work like the chem vault does.

Why do we even need limits? They don't make any sense and are just a moderate annoyance that people can easily get around by just putting the chems in their own stashes or chem vaults temporarily until space is available.

That would be up to CT/devs to decide. At minimum, I'm talking about it having the permissions that the fridges already do.
> What about groups like RCPT? If the entirety of research gets one chemvault, how would theirs be split from the rest?
I don't know? How does that even work with the current fridges? If it does, then just use that part of the fridges. If it doesn't, then CT/devs should cook up a solution.
- Placement

These would be placed like fridges. Like I said in the original post, each chem bank would have its own inventory. Where they'd be placed and who could access them would be up to SL.
- Flasks and Beakers

They aren't. Part of the point of this is not having chems in random containers within a larger container (fridge). Just spawn a new beaker or have some in your stash. If you can't already, then add a new feature to the chem banks to dispense containers as needed if you don't provide one.

My bad i guess I just misunderstood the suggestion.

If you're making chemicals for a profit, something that e.g. only profits 100$ per liter already loses a lot of its profit just by having to buy a large beaker, which is currently priced at 200$. (Ending up with no profit, just because of the large beaker.) Beakers also cannot be placed in stashes as of now, so that would need to be changed to be done.
