Research, D-Class, GSD RP Is Now Prohibitively Onerous [Conclusion: I was incorrectly informed]

I just wanted to make this post because the amount of hoops you have to go through in order to do C.L. 3 tests as a researcher are just so boring and prohibitive research rarely happens these days. To the point where many people just dont do research anymore because its such a faff to actually get approval to do things without getting in trouble. When RP becomes bureaucratic hell it stops being fun and starts being a chore, so people stop doing it.

It used to be that you could make some sort of research proposal (written up well using the given templates) and that would be good enough to do a test or get some samples from pretty much any CL3 SCP (obviously there are exceptions like requiring E-11 for certain SCPs) pretty much. Perhaps you might need verbal approval from some Executive researcher but that was pretty much it.

But now you have to get things signed by an executive which means you have to first hope theres 1 online, then try and find them or harass them into signing it and every single Executive researcher has there own opinions on what is or isnt a good document so 1 might think its fine to sign but then you try and do the same test again and no no no this Executive requires you to rewrite it because the proposal doesnt make sense to them. Then finally once you have managed to get someone to sign the bloody thing you might get killed while showing it or someone steals your brief case or someone runs off with the signed proposal etc. etc.

But the main problem I see with this nonsense is that new players rarely get to experience doing any actual tests to the point where people will join, wait in line for 30 minutes and then get bored and leave because researchers rarely do any tests anymore because of the amount of dumb hoops you have to jump through in order to do a test with approval.

So the Research-DClass-GSD intro loop basically doesnt exist anymore, putting off new players.

I understand the RP elements are fun, and realism is part of RP; but this level of bureaucratic nonsense is hurting the server and the community and the RP in my opinion.

Feel free to tell me I'm wrong but I used to love being a researcher, writing documents, having them reviewed and then feeling confident that was enough for me to be allowed to do tests on CL3 SCPs. Not anymore though, I just dont see the point in putting in so much effort and jumping through so many hoops and honestly I think the level of research happening has dropped dramatically.

CI raids and SCP breaches now feel like the most common RP events. Not interesting research with semi-dangerous SCPs.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

As someone quite involved with RSD, I'd like to ask, is this based on UK or US?

On the UK site we have no restrictions regarding tests of SCPs for your own clearance level, and also offer the Clairvoyance act as a grantable thing from Execs to allow any clearance to conduct tests and learn about SCPs up to 2 clearances above their own clearance level (up to CL4).

The only exception to this would be sampling, which does require an Executive signature if the anomaly being sampled is above CL2.

Its UK site, anytime you want to go to HCZ and secondary BD are manned by E11, they require you to have a signed document. Doesnt matter if its sampling or research. What you say is not what I have experienced while attempting to do said research. It wasnt just a one off occurance either, I tried numerous times to perform research on SCPs in HCZ and have been turned back because of lack of signatures.

I found it easier to get approval to do SCP group therapy as a medic than I did to do research as a researcher.

Full disclosure, I used to be an executive researcher so its not exactly like im new to the way it works, but I have been absent for 2 years and was just kind of shocked at the supposed hoops you have to jump through. Maybe i've been told wrong or the various people were giving me wrong info. IDK.

This is not a policy we have, and is not a requirement.

Was this recent?

For context, I am the current Director for Research. If there are any issues with specific policies we have, you are more than welcome to raise them either through IC discussion, DMs or pings in RSD comms uk.

Hi. The E11 policy requires a signed document only for samples and cl3/4 crosstests and we got a instructions for the document stuck on the wall of Prim abd Sec. So normal tests dont nead a document.

Ex-UK DoR here, you should be shooting E-11 - with a matador - on sight if they deny normal testing because you don't have a document. Hope this helps!
As a E11 Major i support this message.

But honestly if you have a clip or anything from this you can dm me on discord. We really want you to be able to do test easier E11 should not be stoping normal tests if there isent a really good reason. So if this ever does happen again please dm me and ill make sure you can do the test. We have done a quick annochment to make sure that they know this (even tho they already should) but without a clip we cant do anything more for now.

Honestly I just thought it was normal procedure and I was the crazy one for questioning it, thanks team for correcting the record. I will be sure to complain mightily if it happens again and take it to the higher ups.

Back to research I go and if theres a way to close this thread please can someone tell me how to do that (or close it for me).

Thanks all <3

Signed documentation is only required to have when doing a sampling or cross-test
