What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

This suggestion seeks to add paper aeroplanes to VComputers, as a SWEP and accompanying Entity (or the other way around?) -

A player holding a printed document would be able to turn it into a paper aeroplane (Provided that it is only one page long); They are alike their regular document counterparts save for:
  • Being unable to be pinned to corkboards (and stored in cabinets? Unsure.)

  • That they can be thrown. Ideally, thrown paper aeroplanes would glide for a fair distance before falling (Dependant on SWEP implementation, should at least be throwable, really).
When held, paper aeroplanes can be "unfolded" back into a regular one-page document to read its contents. They should generally have the other expected properties of dropped VComputers documents, such as being weapon-destructible and most importantly, having a decay timer for spam mitigation (Thank you once again, funny documents guy).

Janitors should be given a SWEP (or having one of their existing SWEPs altered) for the purpose of damaging and destroying paper aeroplanes (since Janitors are obviously not allowed weapons). Additionally, consider adding Satchels to the Janitor's loadout to give them another option than destroying the paper aeroplanes (Although they can just get them from dispensers - Not picky about this one).

For moderation purposes, maybe consider attaching some form of floating worldspace UI element to paper aeroplanes in flight that shows the SteamID tied to the document? To increase ease of moderating undesired usage of them.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:

This is a direct re-opening of a suggestion I made just over a year ago asking for the exact same thing.

It was denied because:
We believe that its not gonna contribute to RP and is unnecessary use of development resources.
...I don't agree? ...At all? Firstly, IC inappropriate use of paper aeroplanes could be policed by ISD, which gives them a new, fresh thing to be arresting people over amidst the usual stale annoyances. Many replies to the original thread came up with creative and flavourful ways that they would use this in RP scenarios, with even a current CS stating that the idea was 'silly, fun and practical.' I can see there being a concern of it exacerbating misuse of VComputers documents (esp. something like smth like someone making an 008 infobreach and then throwing it towards Pinewood), but that kind of abuse already sufficiently handled as is IMO (much to my personal dismay 😒 Lemme make fake 096 pics 😭)

As for development resources - Developers are volunteers and development work is elective. Let them make that decision. The old suggestion was before the ticket rework, so this should be much less of a concern, now. As for the actual dev work going into it, the bare minimum would be a button in the document UI that turns it into the paper aeroplane with that document data, then a way of turning that back into the document, as well as behaviour for throwing the paper aeroplane, a model for it and then having it fly.

I can maybe see an entity limit concern similar to document spam, but this would be addressed the same way that document spam is, with the decay timer (and the fact that printer credits are a thing, so your ability to produce paper aeroplanes is limited by how many docs you can print). If you're that concerned, maybe postpone development of this until after Virtual SWEPs are sorted?

I think there is enough community interest in this idea to reconsider this as a potential future Content enhancement.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Potentially more RP for ISD & Janitors - Foundation personnel messing around and throwing paper aeroplanes may be considered unprofessional and a potential FLC (UK)/CoC (US) violation, giving more RP for ISD with added variety in arrests and related situations. Janitors may be called on to clean up paper aeroplane messes (especially by individuals actively being arrested). Additionally, by encouraging them to hold onto and report loose documents they find this adds a potential avenue of RP between them and the relevant departments

  • Significant potential for use in Events & RP Enhancements - Imagine a paper aeroplane just appears onsite sailing through the air and that's how you start your event 🔥

  • A potentially more enjoyable way for Parawatch/CI to handle infobreach documents - Rather than just unceremoniously dropping the doc into the intended area, such as over the D-Block railing

  • Something fun & enjoyable for players to do

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:

  • May exacerbate already-extant abuse of VComputers documents.

  • May have undesired physics interactions, potential lag considerations, etc.

  • Dev time

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
