What does this suggestion change/add/remove:

The S-Nav from Containment Breach, it would have a very basic, low-detail map display centred on your position and give you a sort of basic rough info to work with for navigation, intended primarily for D-Class but can have other uses, outlined below - For ease of development, the S-Nav should only work within the actual site itself and would display the iconic "Could not connect to Map Database" error when taken to surface and/or in specific areas/specific circumstances like shortly following map updates, etc.
Intended to be obtainable from 1162, 914, potentially from the scrap dealer as a timed exclusive sort of thing, as an E-11 Warfund (ideally some alternate version with SCP tracking like in Containment Breach), and/or as part of an event. It would be upgradable via 914, which would give you the minimap (from MRP?) all the time you possess it.
Additionally, implement that minimap behaviour separately as part of planned pathing aid features for 096, as well as potentially for 079 to be able to access in some fashion, too.
Care would need to be taken to make sure this couldn't potentially facilitate unwanted infobreach scenarios (i.e. A researcher obtains it as part of a test, they go to HCZ with it and it starts telling them about CL4 SCP containment areas, such as 008), although if only a very basic map implementation is made ala the bare minimum of what's being asked for, then that should avoid that.
Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
"S-Nav" is too short for a forums search and "Minimap" returns nothing. There isn't anything relevant on the dev tracker either, so I can only conclude that this specifically is an original suggestion. There was a suggestion in the past to add site maps to the tactical tablet, but that was denied for:
I largely agree with the conclusion to an extent. I can still personally see some considerable number of cases where people would have to be able to repeatedly refer back to a map on their tablet, such as forgetting or not having been around for a while, etc. But if it was deemed that it'd then still be too much effort to develop (and later also have to keep changing it based on map updates), then I'm not sure that any further discussion on it can really go anywhere, even if it is still wanted by the Community. We feel that adding maps to tablets are needed as the map is not large enough or changed enough to have it. We can understand that it ca be helpful to new players but they easily be able to know the layouts very quickly and making the maps useless.
This is different in that it seeks to expand on things like information contextualisation for D-Class (as D-Class can't obtain a tablet and wouldn't be able to use a map that way) as well as make some kind of use of the minimap feature. You COULD alternatively revisit that and just give D-Class a way to obtain the tactical tablet for this purpose, which would be a better way of solving that.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
- + Provides a consistent, sensible in-world contextualisation for how and why D-Class would or could have or get general site knowledge
- + Makes sensible use of an apparently present, yet completely unused(?) feature in vWar(?)
- + Basic navigation aid to aid in site orientation/similar - Could also be lended to UNGOC during site visits/breach assist to help them navigate
- + More potential Warfund usage for E-11
- + Gives use to the loading screen tip about minimap settings
Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
- - Dev time, recurring depending on future map changes - Possibly the most prohibitive for this idea
- - An additional SWEP to count towards entity limits - I guess maybe wait until virtual SWEPs are in a good state before working on this?
- - Final implementation could end up not helping much / Not work as desired
Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:

This is an idea that was largely inspired by this loading screen tip and I kinda kicked it back and forth with @Zen a little in private, but ultimately I find myself not liking the idea - I personally think this suggestion should be denied simply because based on my understanding of the related features, it would be far too much potential work for too little reward. I tried to make this as open as possible so that it could inspire some form of constructive development direction surrounding this assumedly unused feature, but I simply lack too much behind-the-scenes info (and even in-front-of-the-scenes info, as I never played MRP
) about this specific thing to make a vaguely feasible opinion on the matter. IMO this is still an enormous waste of time, but if there's anything at all here, please take it and run.The only reason this suggestion even exists instead of remaining canned is because @Skittles said I should just do it anyway so blame them. Kthnxbye
