What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Add a documents/lore-tracking system to SCPs. When on an SCP, a person would be able to run a command/press a button to open a menu that would:
  • Allow the player to add a note to the stored lore, approved by CL5/SL similar to the vcomputers document approval system
    • These notes would be about significant RP interactions, things the SCP has learnt, etc.
  • Allow the player to view all previous notes
CL5/SL would be able to approve new notes, and SSL would be able to delete existing notes that become irrelevant. New notes would have to be quality, actually significant, and understandable by new readers. SSL should go through SCP lore notes regularly to remove notes as they become irrelevant.

People flagging onto an SCP for the first time would be prompted to look at the lore notes.

Has something similar been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion different?:
Not that I know of.

Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
  • Allows longer-term RP with SCPs without the same person having to be the SCP
  • Allows players that actually do roleplay as SCPs to remain consistent with the server lore
  • Gives SCPs something interesting to read while not breached and not being tested on
  • Allows new players to understand the server lore of an SCP, as they may not know e.g. how 7722 has acted in the past, or the things that 079 has seen and knows.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
  • Dev time
  • More SL duties

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
This would make longer-term RP involving SCPs actually possible without it having to be the same player every time. Right now, there's no way for a player to know what the SCP they're playing knows IC, what RP it has been engaged in that could come up, or how they should act in different situations/with different SCPs and people. It would also provide new players with a deeper introduction into the SCP's server lore.

I think it would be very restrictive and detrimental to RP to have SCP players expected to read months of material of "past interactions"

This is effectively asking people to read Scipnet documents on their SCPs as a mandatory part of playing them. Even if not strictly mandatory, this would end up expected. Within a few months the "notes" would balloon into dozens of pages, and would be ignored like SCIPNET documents due to the sheer unfathomale quantity of them.

Very cool idea that would be amazing for RP, plus it wouldn't force anyone to read it other than the people approving or checking it.
Even just very short notes that people could write would be cool, doesnt have to be entire articles / pages.

I would say +Support if it was a thing that reset every restart in order to get around this, and any test that was large enough to go past restart could be co ordinated to have the same person on SCP or have it's notes copied

It could, in that scenario of resetting per restart, be approved by Exec Researcher+ as documentation to SCIPNET is uploaded that way too

But if not then I will have to say -Support for this reason too

+/- support
-Seems like a lot of work to manage and I don't think many people would really engage with the system
-Might also restrict RP if people can't act the way they want on the SCP
+It would be a unique system if people did interact with it

Suggestion Up For Further Discussion

Hi @Zen ,

Thanks for taking the time to make a server suggestion.
The Content Team has chosen to put your suggestion up for internal discussion.

We believe a system like this would improve Research RP, as it would allow for continuity between testing. We are unsure about the implementation but are throwing around ideas like Forum Submissions for test reports, and are figuring out who would make these notes (Researchers are more likely to do it well compared to SCP players). For now, we will continue to discuss this in our own channels.

Your suggestion will now be locked and marked as pending review.
