What server you were banned on: SCP-RP (USA)

Your in-game name: Wellington

Your SteamID: STEAM_0:1:514708787

Ban Reason: Called someone a pedophile in german

Date of ban: 15th may wednesday 2024

Who banned you: Craig Perkins

Ban length: 16 weeks

What will you do to stop this from happening again: Will avoid profanity

Why should you be unbanned: I genuinely wasnt being crude or trying to insult the individual, its a pretty common insult where i am from (surrey england) and i got a bit carried away. I understand how it is unacceptable and i am sorry, it wont happen again. I really enjoy playing on this server and would be a little disheartened if i had to firm a ban of 16 weeks because of a slip up in my lingo. I think context is important for this thing i said, it was in a joking manner and me and the individual were speaking german happily, he didnt seem annoyed or distressed when I called him it, just sortof laughed and said what a lot of times then continued to talk to me about being german. I am sorry.. wont do it again.

Hey Wellington, thanks for taking the time to make a ban appeal.

After watching the video of the incident that unfolded, this was not done in a joking manner nor was it simple profanity. You confronted a German player and called them something extremely unacceptable in a low tone. The player in question did not laugh, he in fact was very confused and uncomfortable. This was not a simple slip up in lingo either, this was a targeted insult at another player.

It's important for us to keep the atmosphere safe and fun on Civil Networks, I don't need to explain that when you talk to players like this you fail to accomplish either of those goals. Please take this time to improve from this behavior going forward so that it never happens again.

I can assure you it was in a joking manner, I also didn't 'confront' him, I had previously spoken to him and he was pretty chill. The way you've said that sounds like I was targeting him because he was German? which doesn't make much sense because I am also German, and i also didnt realise he was even german until after he told me he understood what i said. Also saying I said it in a low tone? I didn't change my voice to say it, that's just how I sound, if you watch the entire situation you would see that it was not an insult and was a joke, one which is commonly used in British and German schools and social environments likewise, calling someone a nonce in a jokey bit of banter is pretty common, and is never really used as an insult.

The reason I called him a nonce was because he had previously been speaking in a high pitch voice, a small while before in medbay, so when i next saw him i made the joke. I didnt even know he understood German at the time, and only after i made the comment did he make me aware he actually spoke german, so i dont understand how it can be a targeted insult, you can literally hear me in the clip go "OH YOU SPEAK GERMAN?".

I understand it is an American server, and that it is more corrosive in an American standing the same way that the C word is really rude in the USA where as here it is a common way to greet someone, like in Australia.

The situation in context is viewable from two social prospective, i understand how an American would view calling someone a nonce is unfunny and out of order, whilst an English person would understand that it is commonly used in joking environments.

I'm guessing this would fall under disrespectful conduct, but i meant no disrespect, literally didnt realise he spoke the language?

I'm still sorry, wont happen again, but i wasn't trying to insult anyone and wouldn't intentionally disrespect someone, especially someone that i had had a pretty good rp experience with.

I feel like 16 weeks is excessive for calling someone a nonce, especially when it was a joke one of which that is fairly common, ask any british person or German, saying that I meant it as an insult is also just wrong, i didnt think he would even understand what I was saying, which is why i said it in german and not english... Wasnt trying to upset him or make him uncomfortable, actually a little bit shocked he reported me, because we had had loads of encounters and continued to after the event, in which he didnt seem to care about what i had said.
