"Sterben" has always been fond of birds. Ever since he was a child, he was raised in an aviary with his father. Sterben grew up learning that these creatures are more than what the average person thinks. He studied them, lived with them, slept with them every day and night until he was old enough to leave.
When Sterben had left his home, he took with him his favourite bird at the aviary - a raven by the name of 'Midnight'. Together, Sterben and Midnight travelled the world learning about all kinds of animals and cultures, making it his mission to learn all that he could whilst he had the ability to. This fascination to learn naturally lead Sterben into dangerous places, often times at the wrong place at the wrong time. This could be said with the time where he encountered a strange beast in the middle of a forest, it was large with red, slimy skin and spikes along its back. It hunched over and moved like a dog however could stand up and walk like a human. As unnatural as the creature was, it did not phase Sterben at all, for he had seen numerous things in nature that would make the usual person not want to look further, but he remained.
After his encounter with the 'red devil' as he called it, he wished to study these strange creatures more. As he went searching for them, not looking where any sane person would ever look, he began finding more. After a few months of studying these creatures and the organisation that captures them, Sterben and his bird Midnight set off to track down this mysterious organisation and question them on what these creatures were. Were they creatures from another world? Were they just freaks of nature? Maybe this organisation is just a zoo for endangered animals? Only time would tell.
Sterben eventually found this organisation, called 'The Foundation'. He had travelled many miles to reach this destination, going all the way to North Canada where it is mostly unpopulated, with the exception of the small town of Pinewood and the mysterious military base that has been set up there.
Many years have passed since then. Sterben has learned many things along the way, he has spoken to numerous anomalous subjects and has witnessed insane things that nobody would even begin to imagine. Naturally, among his discoveries he has learnt a few things. One of his closest friends, 'Mabel' was a Thaumatalogist. She studied the dark arts in an attempt to better the world and help where she could. With her help, Sterben began learning some of these dark arts, most notably the ability to summon any animal from the shadows of a room. His mind immediately went to his old pet Midnight, who had died only a few months after moving in to the foundation. After focusing all of his strength and effort into his newfound abilities, Sterben became very good at summoning his old friend, to the point where he could even touch him again.
After talking to the foundation hierarchy, he has gained permissions to use his abilities as a form of self-comfort as the job he partakes in is especially dangerous. His best friend Midnight never leaves his side, and neither will the shadows.
