What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
Currently, the server has lots of flashing lights. The content team recently denied a suggestion to remove the worst offenders of this, arguing that since they had a warning, it would be alright to leave those in.

Honestly, I think this is stupid because I'm not epileptic and those flashing lights annoy the shit out of me anyways. It costs nothing to remove, keeps players happy, and reduces the chance of any seizures. Win-Win-Win all around, except for whoever has to do the coding.

However, since this suggestion was denied I am putting up this one, that is in a similar vein.
When I polled discord users about the warning mentioned in the denied suggestion, as I couldn't remember it, I got many similar responses along those lines.

After rejoining, the warning that was mentioned is the one that appears whenever you spawn in as D-Class for the first time and appears for a second before fading just as quick. As seen in the photo below, the text is already fading before it types out the whole site-65 thing in the bottom corner, so it doesn't stick around for long.

Since the content team is unable or more likely unwilling to remove the annoying flashing lights they've added, I propose an alternative suggestion that could ensure the content team is in tune with the community and actually gives a shit about their players.

The two options I have are here:
Option A: The content team removes the flashing lights. Everyone is happy and not annoyed, content team's reputation is restored as a team that actually listens to players' ideas.
The feelings of the player base on this issue are put pretty clearly, as seen below.

Option B: The content team improves the flashing lights warning to be more prominent. As seen in the discord snapshots above, many players don't even recall its existence, indicating that it is failing in its purpose of warning players of any flashing lights. Someone with a legitimate medical issue may also miss the warning if they walk away while joining, or fail to read it fast enough before it fades. This could be accomplished in numerous ways, such as a pop-up similar to staff (a one-time checkbox that players must scroll through to check off, or something similar) or a button to acknowledge the warning before continuing. Since this only pops up when you join the server and doesn't pop up again, the annoyance should be pretty minimal against the benefit gained in ensuring players are adequately informed of potential issues.
Possible Positives of the suggestion (At least 2):
Reputation is restored with the player base that the content team acknowledges and works on problems brought up by players.
Accessbility is good. You should work towards this goal. Good people make games accessible.

Possible Negatives of the suggestion:
People might be annoyed, but if someone gets annoyed at the prospect of a mechanism to protect epileptics then they're probably the type to park in handicapped spaces outside of grocery stores and take shits in the handicap stall of the bathroom.

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted:
Because you guys are compassionate people and would implement this regardless. Or so we'd hope.

Ah, do you mean you want examples of flashing lights? Barry's denied suggestion has a few of the more annoying ones.

Most of these could be changed to be slower pulsing or simply a static overlay. For the SCP infections, it'd probably be a nice gameplay tweak to let them see targets easier, especially in power-out situations where the red overlay is much harsher.
Of course, the optimal solution would be an accessibility toggle to change these flashing elements into static ones. I'd bet most players would play with it on regardless just to remove the annoying, persistent flashing these gameplay elements cause.

If you would like a clip of the duration of the flashing lights warning, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for that.

I keep seeing these and ignoring them but it looks like a feature the community actually wants. Or at least they want it looked into.

And the denials are happening because it would be an unfair advantage to have flashing lights disabled/there is a warning when you join?

That doesn’t address the issue of there still being a problem with excessive screen flashing, that just puts it aside as less important until it actually hurts someone and then becomes important.

If you have those problems dont fucking play the game, doctor's recommendations, you are putting your own life at risk if you play video games with epilepsy so its your fucking fault

Spitting pure facts.

If you add a toggle, it'll just become a must-have for anyone who does PVP regularly, as it'll remove all flashes/stuns and similar effects and give an unfair advantage to anyone with it turned on.

1- Reason is you're not seeing the warning about epilepsy cause you always are pressing 'F11' to get in the game faster, so thats you're fault
2 - While i agree its annoying on the red flashing but this is for gameplay to fit the 008 scheme and zombie scheme
3- this is SCP.
4- A button to toggle this off and on will be time consuming instead of fixing something more important (e.g. 2nd hcz entrace)

Hello, thank you for making this suggestion. We will be looking into this and will be looking into some effects (such as the new infections) in order to make them more bearable.

However, the previous suggestion in regard to this simply stated that all effects should be fully removed to accommodate a minority of players, which is extremely unreasonable. The effects that are there add immersion to the server, and we do warn people about the flashing lights whenever they join the server, with a message: "This server contains some Flashing Imagery & sudden sounds/visuals". Some flashes, such as new infections, may be quite harsh, which is why we will be looking into them in order to improve them. But other flashes, such as the emergency lights and SCP effects, add an immense amount of immersion to the player experience, which we are not removing from the server. Furthermore, adding an option to turn off these flashing lights may add an unwanted advantage.

Listed in your suggestion are quite vulgar statements blaming us, the content team, for not giving a "shit" about the player base. This is simply not true. We always seek to improve the server and heed the advice of the majority of the player base; however, players should also be reasonable with other alternatives rather than simply removing a whole feature due to something affecting a minority of the player base. We work our hardest to seek the pros and cons of every single suggestion on the forums, spending hours on end doing so. From the looks of it, you want this change due to it being "annoying."

We truly understand the risk of flashing lights on epileptic players, and we sympathize with that. We recommend that photosensitive epileptic patients not play on the server if it triggers their seizures. I am sure their doctors recommend it too. It is the responsibility of the person to not do anything that may negatively affect their health.

If you have any more questions, please contact myself or Superadmins @Requis @Luft

Kind Regards,
Rushi
